POV: The year is 1865 and you’re an unhappily married closeted lesbian who has been planning on poisoning her husband and the town doctor runs in saying your husband, a popular novelist who was also secretly gay, was kicked by a horse and died so now you don’t have to give him the arsenic tea. You can finally be with your female lover but you also have to explain the news to your husband’s secret lover.
POV, Tense, and the Switching Thereof I find it a mark of an immature writer, either mentally, chronologically, or what have you, to switch or keep switching either degree of POV and tense. The story starts out in third person past tense. Cool, it’s what I’m most accustomed to, and I tend to despise first person unless there’s a damn good reason for it or it “just works best” that way upon reading, where something ineffable would be lost if done in third person. (Don’t even talk to me about second person. My brain mostly refuses to accept it.) But then the story suddenly switches to headers like “So-and-So’s POV” and first person present tense. Like, whut? Pick a fucking POV angle and tense, and stick with it. Also, why are you putting in shit like “So-and-So’s POV” when simple contextual clues can relieve any doubt or confusion, right from the start?
Pov writting when got get so invested in reading old notes for your story you forget your the writer and legitimately get disappointed that you have to write what happens next to know T-T Found one of my note pages being a two part piece and now both excited for the second page cause I legitimately forgot about this scene- I am now re-motivated for this story lmao 🤣
