I feel like Leon and Panther would be really awkward around Ash. Since neither would be very good with kids, but they know well not to mess with their boss’s surprise kid. I’m just imagining something like this right after they find out he’s Wolf’s son and are waiting for their boss to come see *all 3 sitting in silent while waiting for Wolf to come back* Leon: so uh…you want a beer? Panther: he’s 15 Leon: I DON’T KNOW! WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO WITH HIM!?

ALT ALT I am not a fan of the ‘crazy goon/thug’ characterization they went with for Leon in the later games, but this moment from the secret smash conversations has had such an impact on how I write Leon. The text alone cannot convey just how gleeful he sounds. Leon loves watching Wolf fight. Because he likes watching Wolf or because he likes the sheer violence is up to interpretation.

According to the official Japanese guide for Star Fox 64, Pigma is the true mastermind behind Star Wolf in 64; Wolf was just a pawn being manipulated by him. Pigma betraying James and Peppy also wasn’t just a random betrayal, he had a pre-existing relationship with Andross from his time working at the Corneria Defense Force Scientific Research Institute. Andrew is also not well-liked by the other members of the team, but Andross made Pigma babysit him, and Andrew’s connection to Andross provides the team with “immeasurable financial and technological backup”. This explains why both Pigma and Andrew were picked off the team between 64 and Assault; with Andross gone, Pigma was no longer able to manipulate Wolf, and there was no reason to tolerate Andrew anymore either.

Random Headcanons Star Wolf Edition: Leon is the closest thing the team has to a doctor. Whether he actually went to medical school or just taught himself anatomy to be a more effective assassin is unknown. ( Well, Wolf might know, but if he does, he won’t tell. ) Wolf was not happy when Andross told him Pigma would be joining the team. For as long as he was paying the bills however, Wolf could not refuse. Andrew was assigned to Star Wolf in the hope that he would learn how to be a competent fighter. Pigma, knowing Wolf from when he’d hang out with Star Fox back in the day, and hearing about the training accident on Corneria, recommended Wolf to Andross as the leader of Star Wolf. Leon first met Wolf when they were both part of the Jackal Pirates. He was Wolf’s second in command. Something that did not change when they became part of Star Wolf. Leon is a sniper. Wolf is a brawler. Pigma was their saboteur, Andrew was their mechanic. Panther is a negotiator. Of the Star Wolf team, Leon’s the only one allowed to see Wolf without his eyepatch. Leon is a good cook but given his profession as an assassin most of his teammates won’t trust eating the food he makes. (Wolf will though. Good food is good food. Plus, he trusts if Leon wanted to kill him, he’d use a knife or a rifle instead of poison.) Pigma likes to gamble - of course he always cheats to ensure he wins. Andrew has no memories of his parents. In his personal quarters on the Sargasso Hideout, Panther has a rosebush that he grew and tends to himself. ( It is his dream to one day have a whole rose garden. ) Andrew and Pigma are from Corneria, Leon and Panther are both from Zoness, Wolf is from Macbeth.

ALT ALT ALT ALT I love this moment in Starlink so much. Just the fact that Leon calls out Falco. Of course, Falco denies it, but Leon does not sound convinced. I wonder if even Falco believes himself in this scene. There is so much depth hinted at here and I would love to see it get explored more in the future. What do you mean this isn’t even in an actual Star Fox game? Honestly whoever was writing Star Wolf for the Crimson Moon DLC nailed it. They should absolutely get a chance to write a Star Fox game. I’d love to see what they’d do with both mercenary teams.
