Watching him throw his legacy down the toilet in favor of AI is disappointing, but at the end of the day, he made his choice. His “apology” wasn’t genuine and I wouldn’t be surprised if he tried to get involved in another AI related project down the line. It genuinely sucks that someone with so much talent turned out to be a disingenuous asshole, but that’s life, I guess.

i’m so excited that I get to brag on a friend here !! thank you so much baby!!!!! 🥹🎮🖌️ so my cutie flatmate’s bf is a video game designer [and a phenomenallllll one at that]. he’s been doing it for years. so I asked him a long time ago if I could commission him for a visual of Steve, running in the woods to specifically use for “I See Fire,” and he said “betttttttt” ~ so a few months later, he was like “how’s this?” and when i tell you i died… like IT’S SO PERFECT. he literally took his time, making sure that it accurately looked like him running through the woods, like I get that it’s his job so for him, it’s just a matter of time and software and working his magic… but for me, it’s pure sorcery. i’ve seen him work so it really shouldn’t have surprised me, but it really did anyway, and it makes me want to scream AI robots who try and do the same job within seconds and minutes… while it takes someone like him a lot more time, but it still gets the job done even more beautifully in my opinion. (I would shout at his name in the A/N credit ~ but I don’t want him getting 1 million inquiries && out of respect for him && my private life, I need to keep it under wraps plus he would technically need to get permission from his company to do any work outside of the company soooo… unfortunately I can’t share it lmao but he && lark are the cutest gamer couple ever) hire your friends!!!!!!!! fuck ai !!!!!!!!!

My neo-luddism first started in the mid-1980s, with the rise of the personal computer. Being a young fan of science fiction, I already had a pessimistic view of the widespread adoption of this tech, which was at odds with most of my peers. I wasn’t against all tech, of course. Star Trek! TV! Video games! LoL Just as the original Luddites weren’t against all tech of their day – despite what my mother told me about them, at the time. (The usual propaganda we still see today.) It would be a position I held right up until the late ‘90s, with the rise of the World Wide Web. It wasn’t until 2000, when my mother and step-father browbeat me (and my then partner) into buying a PC, with their help. Of course it wasn’t long before I had to eat my words, easily latching onto creating images and art and making websites, using the web to do things like search my family history (even before Ancestry dot com), and, of course, going headfirst into the world of online chat groups and message boards. Funny that that last bit was the part my mom side-eyed, but as both shy and an introvert, not to mention neurodivergent, it was a revelation; finally being able to express myself, and settle into a large group of friends. Something that had largely escaped me “IRL”. But even as I saw the personal benefits, not only for people like myself, but for research and information and art, and so on and so on, the very real, greater drawbacks were never far from my mind. While people like me benefited from finding community, it was already clear that it too easily enabled and fomented tribalism on a grander scale. Racist comments flourished on YouTube, even before the rise of Facebook and Twitter. And while the latter had temporary organisational benefits, vis à vis resistance movements, the damage the original 140 character limit did to discourse is enormous. That this was all happening in conjunction with the ongoing neoliberal carving out of society and post-9/11 fear-mongering should have been a signal to more people, but there was Survivor and American Idol! Most people could still shut their eyes to the growing inequity and rise in extremist movements. To the death of brick and mortar stores and established service industries. But the convenience! And we’ve all been complicit to one degree or another. It’s all a matter of whether one recognises it or not. And now we have Ai (in name only, of course), and all my worst fears are coming to fruition in real time. Everything all the best sci-fi writers warned of. (And no, I don’t mean the self-aware Ai part.) But the gullible, apathetic, anti-intellectual, and easily-entertained masses eat it up. Defend it even. Swayed by tech gaslighters still holding the line on us silly, little luddites. They will continue to try and paint us as being “afraid”, of being “anti-science” and “anti-tech”…. “anti-intellectual”, even… as they appeal to the actual anti-intellectual/anti-art crowd while fully implementing their surveillance state. But we were warned of that, too. Even people who normally mock the climate-change deniers, and shame people who don’t care about the environment, are turning a blind eye; swayed by the ease of making images they don’t seem to realise are facile and fugly, sounds that are formulaic and banal to the extreme, and verbiage that is flat and uninspiring. And so it will fall, largely, to the working and underclasses to hold the line, to fight against the data centres that are being built in areas that too many 'good liberals’ will maintain that blind eye towards. Just as these good liberals do with communities impacted by fracking and factory farming (never mind the poor animals). Just like with Flint, Michigan, and the rusty water; or, here in Canada, ongoing in far too many Indigenous communities. (And then they wonder why the people in these various communities don’t all vote Democrat/Liberal – as they spout the same anti-socialist rhetoric as the far-right. LoL)

Beautiful flowers, my dear. I am using this as an excuse to post a rant. I’ve been working on a short story for my English class since March 28th. I finished and turned it in today. Simple requirements, could be about whatever we wanted, it had to have more than 500 words, easy peasy. I ended up with 2100 words in total, and I just found a private message from my teacher sent April second. The message in question: I left his name because I’m fucking pissed and he’s an old man who I don’t give a fuck about. Here was my response, posted just today: I’m so fucking mad. SO mad. Here’s the fucking proof!! WHAT THE FUCK. More than fifty fucking percent of a novel published in 1992 came back as AI generated. And that’s the first two paragraphs!! Who fucking knows how much of the entire novel will say it’s AI!! I’m so angry. I’m angry and hurt and really fucking tired of this. What hope is there for me, for us, for writers and artists and people if everything we do will be flagged as illegitimate?? I was so proud of this work, and now I want absolutely nothing to do with it.
