Catherine is a highly skilled marketing strategist. Having worked for Apple in the UK, Niwot is very fortunate to have her talents deployed here now. What’s more she practices what she preaches and regularly revamps her website and social media profile. We wanted her portrait to be eye catching. It needed to demonstrate her professionalism and creativity, as well as convey approachability. Catherine wanted a dark background and we opted for fairly dramatic lighting. We obviously had to have a hair light to show off Catherine’s amazing hair color. Gotta love high heels, they give a powerful pose a feminine twist. Also a big thank you to our cosmetic artist Stephanie for flawless make-up.

Meghann is from Wisconsin, but her heart is in the Rocky Mountains so she decided to do her senior portraits here! And wouldn’t it be that when I was FINALLY going to meet this cool chic, it was the very day I was admitted to the hospital…BUMMER for ME, but SCORE for Meghann cause she got to work with one of my favorite photographers in Colorado - Nate! Holy smokes, Meghann is already a freaking babe, but Nate pulled out all the techniques getting amazing sun flares and gorgeous lighting. Literally couldn’t have done any better myself! People have this misconception that pale people should not have their portrait made on a white background because it will “wash them out.” . If your photographer knows what they’re doing, the opposite is actually true. Love this time of year because I get to do something totally different and hang out with my little handful of Seniors that I get to do every year! Many of you probably don’t know that I went to school to be a High school English teacher. My path led me to get to be a full time photographer, but there is still a part of me that misses the dream of hanging out with teens all day. SO senior portraits are such a win-win! Calvin is one of those guys that is just so naturally cool that he doesn’t have to put any effort into trying to be. I wish I knew what that felt like, haha - teach me your ways Calvin! He’s not a man of many words, at least in the short time I had with him, but you just get that vibe that he has all his crap together already and he’s so ready for this next phase of life. Things I never thought I’d photograph office skydiving. I’m sure she looks way cooler doing the real thing, but we had 5 minutes for an at work picture. People have the most interesting lives…what should we know about you?

Make sure that you back up your pictures! This cute family picture, taken in 2010 at Coot Lake near Boulder, was nearly lost forever. Fortunately we’d made prints….but for graduation slideshows etc, digital files are needed. I was so impressed that my client was making her slideshow ahead of time. When she discovered that her disc was no longer working she called to see if I had a back up. I don’t love filing…but it pays off. I’m so thrilled that I could help out. Enjoy your pictures!

Kibera is the largest slum in East Africa and home to nearly 1,000,000 people. The charity Carolina for Kibera exists to develop local leaders, catalyze positive change and alleviate poverty. They offer one of the very few training programs available to women (Kenya is a very male dominated society). Having visited Kibera last year, our family is supporting their amazing arts program.
