Fake Shot (Leighton U #5) by C.E. Ricci It was interesting to read. I enjoyed it .. Book Review: ***Spoilers here and there*** Okay I enjoyed this book and liked Logan and Camden together. Even though everything started off as fake in the beginning I figured that Cam was going to fall fast for Logan when they started fake dating. Then for Lexi to already know that it was fake to begin with and not say anything that was kind of… View On WordPress

📚 Review 📚 The Longest Autumn If you’re going to read one book for the vibes alone, let it be The Longest Autumn. I loved diving into this book. Ironically, I picked it up during the first weekend of autumn, and it was the perfect read. I’m not going to lie—I loved this book, but it also destroyed me. The Longest Autumn is so much more emotional than I expected it to be. I’m going to try to describe how it works without spoiling anything. Think about the seasons—autumn is about death and renewal, right? Well, the themes within this book perfectly match that, but at times, they surprise (and break) the reader. So consider yourself warned. There was something so charming and enchanting about The Longest Autumn. I loved Amy Avery’s writing style. I also appreciated how she portrayed the gods - and how humanity bleeds into (and out of) them. If you go into this book expecting themes of autumn, the price of godhood, and humanity’s limitations, you will love The Longest Autumn. It may make you cry, but it will be worth it. Going into it with these expectations will mostly help you through the ending. Highlights: Romantasy Mythology Gods & Seasons Lies & Loyalty LGBTQ+
📚 Review 📚 Daughter of Mine Whew. There’s a whole lot to unpack in Daughter of Mine – which means it’s a tense thriller through and through! I was hooked from the first page. I know that a story beginning with a funeral can be dark…but this is a thriller we’re talking about. So it’s the best type of intro. What unfolds in this book is as complex as it is chilling. Everything here has layers—the family, the friends, even our main character. Nothing is quite as it seems, and it is all mash-up with a myriad of emotions. The best part about Daughter of Mine, for me, was trying to sort it all out. (Who was doing what, and why?). I got close a few times, but this book did a great job of staying one step ahead of me (without ever outright lying or breaking the promise). As such, it’s one of the strongest thrillers I’ve read in a bit. Be sure to check out Daughter of Mine if you’re looking for a dark read about secrets, suspense, and family drama. Because for one , I did wanted to know the backstory on how Enfield and Xavi got together… View On WordPress
📚 Review 📚 One Last Breath Whew! Ginny Myers Sain does have a way of combining paranormal and thrillers. I love her writing style and will always jump at the opportunity to read her next book. So, here I am, having just finished One Last Breath. As with the rest of Ginny Myers Sain’s novels, One Last Breath is this intricate blend of thriller and paranormal. It starts as a creepy thriller with a history of girls dying in the area. But at some point, it’s hard even to mark when the paranormal elements begin bleeding through. I love that subtle shift in the writing, even when I don’t always love how the twist ends (which is the case here). Ultimately, this wasn’t my favorite twist, and I wished there had been more exploration of other core elements. 📚 Review 📚 A Sweet Sting of Salt Oh wow. A Sweet Sting of Saltis so compellingly and beautifully written. If you like a rich blend of historical fantasy, romance, and local lore, this is the book for you. Also, it’s a must read if you love selkies or the original tale (The Selkie Wife). This book will make you feel SO MUCH. It’s complex, dark, and hopeful all in one. And yes, Jean is one of those characters you want to bundle up and protect (sometimes from herself – she’s one of those characters that doesn’t always think her decisions through). There’s no denying that A Sweet Sting of Salt is a slow build. As such, the pacing is on the slower side. I can easily see readers loving or hating that, so keep that in mind when deciding if you want to pick it up. Personally, I enjoyed the way the story slowly ramped up. I would urge an ounce of caution before diving into A Sweet Sting of Salt – check out a list of trigger warnings (either mine or a more comprehensive list) if you’re at all worried. Mary Shelley/Frankenstein Day Hey Peeps, So if you haven’t guessed, today is Mary Shelley’s birthday. 228 years ago, Mary Shelley was born. I’m not going to bore you with the place and family like her wiki. I want tao talk about the summer of 1816. That is the summer that Mary and her family went to stay with Lord Byron. This writers’ retreat got us the book that she is most known for, Frankenstein. I feel that the death of… View On WordPress
The Backup Plan (King Sports #1) by Eden Finley Currently reading. 📖 Book Review: ***Spoilers here and there*** Great book I definitely enjoyed this book! I thought Thad and Afton was a good fit for each other. And Not only that I get like Afton made Thad more understanding towards others and brought him out of his funk towards others when it came to baseball. Especially with Afton because that was who his hate was toward. But I felt like… View On WordPress
📚 Review 📚 Castle of the Cursed Oh, how I love diving into a gothic fantasy. Castle of the Cursed certainly meets that bill, with an added dash of horror and romance. This book is for you if you love a story full of folklore, familial secrets, vampires, and blood. I really enjoyed this book because it kept me on my toes. Every time I thought that I had a feel for it and thought I knew what would happen next, BAM! It hit me with another twist. It wasn’t afraid to take risks and had a bit of fun along the way. Part of me wishes we could have seen more of the world (worlds?) and the magical structures, but I usually walk away from fantasy books wanting more. This book weaves a rich amount of lore (and pain) into its pages, making it the perfect foundation for Estela’s story. The romantic subplot felt a little young, but it was a nice balance for all the darkness in this book. On that note, be sure to check out the trigger warnings before diving into Castle of the Cursed. 📚 Review 📚 How to Solve Your Own Murder Okay, with a title like that, you KNOW I’ve got to check it out. How to Solve Your Own Murder is a different type of murder mystery, as the victim knows well ahead of time what will happen to her. Sort of. I really enjoyed this novel. It had similar vibes to Knives Out - with all the cast scrambling to find an answer before the detective (for largely selfish reasons, but still). The stakes are primarily monetary, but the depths of this mystery go deep. I dove into How to Solve Your Own Murder expecting one mystery (the one teased in the title - duh), but really, it’s at least two different mysteries wrapped into one. The further Annie and crew dig into Frances’ past, the more they dig up. The twists are slightly out there, but it’s all in good fun. I would absolutely read another novel by Kristen Perrin, given the chance. This is great news because, apparently, this is the first in a series! Stay tuned for the next Castle Knoll Files novel. Easton (The Swift Brothers #2) by Riley Hart Currently reading. 📖 Book Review: Love it. 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.. ***Spoilers here and there*** While reading this book and even before I read this book when I was reading Morgan story. I was to see that Archer became his… View On WordPress
📚 Review 📚 Mistress of Lies Oh. I’m torn. On the one hand, I really enjoyed Mistress of Lies. On the other hand, I do feel like it didn’t quite live up to its potential. Wait, let’s step back a moment. Mistress of Lies is a thrilling book of lies, deception, love, and blood magic. It’s dark and dangerous, and I can see why readers are talking about it. This book consists of three perspectives, but the main two are Shan and Samuel. They counter each other nicely—one character is fully immersed in a world of blood magic, and the other is new but full of potential. I loved things about this book and things that could have used a bit more work. For example, I loved how the main characters played against one another. Their back-and-forths did an excellent job of portraying multiple motivations (and how these can change over time). Unfortunately, Mistress of Lies had a show/tell issue. One of the most prominent examples is Shan’s character. We’re told time and time again (seriously, I lost count) that Shan is a master plotter. But we never actually get to see her in action. At least not with any competency. Instead, we see her easily manipulated (both by the king and her own emotions). It almost felt like she was two characters. All things said and done, Mistress of Lies is a decent read. Considering that this is a debut novel, it’s all the more solid. Personally, I intend to follow up on the sequel, as I want to see how the story ends. Highlights: Fantasy Blood Magic High Fantasy Multiple POVs LGBTQ+
📚 Review 📚 The Warm Hands of Ghosts I’ve been hearing SO much hype about The Warm Hands of Ghosts. It’s all over the place, including a few book boxes. So, I was pretty hyped about it. While it was a good read, I don’t think it quite met my expectations. However, one should probably take my review with a grain of salt, as I’m not always a fan of historical fiction or fantasy. I loved parts of this story, such as the overall writing (how they revealed Laura’s past was a chef’s kiss) and the atmospheric vibes from the pages. Despite loving the overall writing style and atmosphere, I didn’t fall in love with this book, which is odd because I liked the characters just fine. Maybe it was my fear of getting attached (ghosts + wartime usually equals heartbreak, right?). 📚 Review 📚 Darling Girls Hrm. What to make of Darling Girls? Well, it’s a complex web of stories, that’s for sure! Things never seemed to go how I expected, for better or worse. Overall, I’d say that this was a compelling read – but perhaps not the strongest I’ve read this month. Darling Girls has four different perspectives, the three sisters and one surprise (left intentionally vague until the end). Their tales help to intentionally obfuscate the truth. I don’t mind this writing trick, and I certainly enjoyed how different each sister was. That said, something bothered me throughout this book. It took me until the end to put my finger on it—the blasé relationship with reality. I get it—it’s a thriller! But sometimes, what was described is not how things would go down in real life (again, for better or worse). But that’s just me nitpicking, so I won’t let that affect my overall review that much. Long story short, Darling Girls is another fascinating read from the mind of Sally Hepworth. Be sure to check it out! (But also, check the trigger warnings first).
