Toronto - 6/11-6/12 2026 One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to travel alone more often, for a few reasons: I love traveling, but I haven’t had the opportunity to prioritize it like I have wished since moving to Pittsburgh I have pushed myself to do more without guaranteed partnership or company, and thus re-write the narrative that doing things by myself is not inherently lonely or less It’s empowering to do complicated things like visit and navigate foreign countries with only my wits about me I’ve traveled alone a lot for work, but don’t have a job that’s likely to carry me abroad anymore and I should probably experience more travel alone without that kind of daily directive My dedication to baking over the last year has made travel kind of impossible. Random schedules and inconsistent shift times make it hard to cobble things together on the fly, and prime travel time (i.e. The Summer) is the absolute busiest time at the shop With a new part-time remote job, and also almost a year’s worth of wanderlust backlog chewing at my ankles, I decided I’d go to Canada for my birthday. The original conceit began when I realized a tattoo artist I’d been dreaming of getting tattooed by had openings for my birthday weekend in Montreal… a perfect excuse! Also, a drivable distance to a safe country I’ve visited prior seemed like a good way to kick off my single-lady-travel era. Motreal is also, conveniently 6 hours east of Toronto, and 6 hours north of New York, New York. (boy that sure is the full length and width of the state of New York ain’t it) Considering Toronto would be an excellent way-stop and Motley Hue, a big, Brooklyn based Fusion event, would occur the next weekend, it seemed like a very good excuse to spend a full Earth’s rotation driving in a big ole’ sqaure. I have been to Toronto a couple of times, both to explore and to spend time with friends, and so my time there (a little over 24 hours) was limited but bound to be joyful. I left Pittsburgh in the middle of the day on Thursday and found myself in Toronto by sunddown, in time to eat tacos from a near by taqueria with my hosts and chat deep into the night before hanging up my hat. The next day was my birthday proper, and so one of my hosts took the day off to tag along with me around town. We made our way up and down Roncevalles (affectionately, “Roncie” by the locals) eating pastry and shopping at pop-ups and boutiques. Coffee & confectionary! We jaunted across town to visit a silver seller I recall encountering the last time I was in Toronto, all the while sweating in the early June heat. We found some reprieve in ice cream before heading home to prepare for a party being thrown that evening! Good timing for my birthday! We change into our party togs and go for drinks at a local bar where I had one of my favorite cocktails of the weekend: an “Italian Breakfast.” A delightful gin and melon drink with a foamed marscapone to top it off–Savory and bright! More like Italian lunch + dinner, honestly The party was lovely… …and my last meal in Toronto was also quite the performance… To Montreal at dawn!
⚡ Charge Ahead or Crash Out? Starmer’s EV Gamble Sparks Fears for Britain’s Car Industry 🚗💥 Keir Starmer is facing growing pressure over electric vehicle targets that critics claim could leave Britain’s automotive sector stalled on the hard shoulder. Union leaders are warning that the current Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate risks forcing manufacturers to produce electric cars faster than consumers are willing—or able—to buy them. The concern isn’t about electric vehicles… View On WordPress
