So…are the Whos from the Grinch the same Whos from Horton Hears a Who?

Watching the Illumination version of the Grinch last night I was trying to figure out if the Whos and whoville are pre- or post-Horton hears a Who. Do they have any comprehension of the cosmic horror that will one day jeopardise their entire existence? Can they predict that there’s an incomprehensibly massive elephant who can carry their planet like a speck of dust? Is that why they had such a ridiculously big Christmas tree? To try and level themselves with this astronomical threat? Also, we know that at the time of the Grinch the Who’s live on a complete planet with a North pole, but does Horton carry the whole planet or merely Whoville itself? Is the town going to rupture from the rest of the world? Does the reformed Grinch end up trapped by Horton or watching on in horror? Idk but thinking about this fucked me up

For those who don’t know Grinch Night is a Dr. Seuss story where the Grinch is portrayed as a monster that terrorizes the entirety of Whoville whenever the weather pisses him off. The entire town is so terrified of him that they go into full lockdown at the slightest hint of bad weather. And Max, the Grinch’s dog, is with him at the start of this story and leaves at the end. That means this story takes place after How The Grinch Stole Christmas. I can only imagine what was going through the Whos minds that Christmas. The local serial killer, who nobody can stop, came into town on Christmas Eve while everyone was asleep and stole the entire town’s presents, food and Christmas decorations. Every single item. And he didn’t kill a single person. No wonder they all started singing. They were probably just grateful to be alive. And then he shows back up, gives back their presents and celebrates Christmas with them. He even cut the Roast Beast. The Whos were probably ecstatic. The nightmare was finally over, the Grinch wasn’t evil anymore. It must have felt like a genuine Christmas miracle. And then the next day he went back to his cave in Mount Crumpet and a week later he resumed serial killing. What The Hell?!

I believe the Whos down in Whoville would find that their Grinch problems could be easily solved by setting reasonable noise limits so nobody feels the need to come down from the goddamn fucking mountain to try to get them to shut up. Do you know how far away that mountain is? How long of a walk? Do you think it’ll be just for a talk? Put a sock in it! Or nature will send her mister on over and out.

Martha May and Grinch. Martha May Whovier agrees to marry Someone from the town. Under pressure, of course. The Grinch destroys the town as shown in the movie, but at the very end, the Mayor doesn’t want to let him go unpunished. In the end, under threats, he forces the Sheriff to take him into custody. Martha tries to stop this along with Cindy Lou, but to no avail. Cindy, in tears, catches up to the Grinch and grabs his hands, which are already cuffed. Martha tries not to show her grief too obviously, but just like in childhood, a tear rolls down her cheek. She sadly watches the Grinch being led away, and then her now-furious husband approaches her. He roughly squeezes her hand while smiling and speaking to the crowd. When everyone disperses, he pulls her close and says. “Well, my dear, I will now ask you, once and for all, to forget about the existence of this scoundrel. You are my wife now, and that entails certain obligations and rules of conduct. No sadness.” After this, he smiles and says.“Smile, Martha, it’s Christmas Day.”
