“Greek-Ottoman Polacre ‘Bella Aurora’ off Marseille ”, (1801) by the French maritime artist Ange-Joseph Antoine Roux, (1765–1835). A polacre is a type of seventeenth- to nineteenth-century sailing vessel. The painting depicts the Greek-Ottoman trade flag.Colors and structure: The flag consists of three horizontal stripes. The two extreme stripes (upper and lower) are colored red, which symbolized the Ottoman Empire. The middle stripe is blue, representing the Greek Christian population. Starting from the second half of the 18th century and until the beginning of the Greek Revolution in 1821, this special civil flag was ordered by the laws of the Ottoman Empire to be carried by merchant ships owned by Orthodox Greeks.
CHRISTIAN BENJAMIN OLSEN (1873-1935, Danish) - The steamship Chr. J. Kampmann off Kronborg at Elsinore», dated c. 1928 Source’s Comment: “The Chr. J. Kampmann was delivered from its Copenhagen builders to the Danish steamship company Vendila in 1924. It was named after the chairman of the company. When Denmark was occupied by Germany in April 1940, the ship was moved to Canada and it became part of the Canadian Merchant Navy, keeping its name. At 02.02 hours on 3 November 1942 the Chr. J. Kampmann (Master Martin Jensen) in convoy TAG-18 was hit by two stern torpedoes from U-160 and sank by the stern northwest of Grenada. 17 crew members and two gunners were lost. The master and seven crew members were picked up by USS Lea (DD 118), transferred to USS PC-495 and landed at Curaçao.”
So I randomly felt a burst of energy and am on an art high right now… but quick question: Do you ever just ship something for zero reason? The characters never interact or even know of each other, but you ship ‘em just… because? I know a lot of people dislike those kinds of ships because “they literally have zero chemistry” but you know deep down that they’re… only partially right… I dunno. I could be alone on this but I like a lot of ships and think they’re charming despite the source material hinting at NOTHING between the characters involved. Anyone else feel the same? >_<
