Update on #OneDayWithoutShoes: 27% of the target. I guess not too bad for a one-day affair that wasn’t very well-publicized. Last year it was almost 30% of the 1 million shoes target over a period of two weeks, with instagrammers from 30 countries. But we can do better next year! And on top of this, people are still doing the traditional fundraising barefoot walks and runs that they have always done for ODWS. This is the 9th year of ODWS, and only the 2nd year of celebrating it on Instagram. I think the challenge is in convincing people to post photos of their feet - there are actually people who will refuse to do it (perhaps almost 70% of the population, judging from these numbers…) even if it means helping a kid! :P
fun fact: you can donate a pair of shoes to a child in need without spending a cent. simply take a photo of your bare feet and tag @toms #withoutshoes on instagram up until the 21st may, and they’ll give a child a pair of shoes. did you know that millions of children don’t attend school because they have no shoes? it’s so simple. get involved and spread the word. #onedaywithoutshoes 👡👠👢👞👟
A Little for A Lot
This Thursday marked the annual One Day Without Shoes Event sponsored by TOMS. This day is set aside to raise awareness for children living in poverty, particularly those whose lives suffer from a lack of proper clothing and shoes. (Not familiar with TOMS? Read more here! http://www.toms.com/ ) TOMS encourages people to go one day without shoes, to raise awareness and start conversation about children who are not able to attend school or work because of a lack of shoes. We decided to do something about it. We learned children at our local elementary schools were coming to class without proper shoes as well. They were worn or too small and they needed the proper shoes to go outside and do more physical activity. We went without our shoes (as much as we can in our facility that is!) and gave. We raised 9 pairs of shoes for the classroom. The shoe-less crew There is joy in giving. First photo attempt with the whole crew.
