Some days start out amazing .. incredible temps for middle of November. I had a tailwind all the way up to the top of the Ridge .. through Bethany to the Wutai Shan Buddhist Garden for a quick stop .. then on to Omemee. The first 70km was stunning, even with a pile of climbing. Then I turned West at Omemee and it went to hell in a handcart 😈😈 Actually, handcarts might move faster. I now had 20-30kph headwinds plus some monster hills to climb. It was so bad I had to pedal downhill just to keep moving. 🥴😵😵‍💫🤪🤬 @coachsandybatten joked before I left that I wouldn’t be home until sunset (late start) … she was wrong! 🙃🙃🙃 I was home an hour AFTER sunset 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Riding 70km into headwinds all the way sapped the strength from my legs .. I was toast when I got home. This 140km adventure felt like a 200+km ride. After last night’s fun at the wedding, I had a few calories to burn off 🤣🤣 Maybe it was the 3 helpings of Lobster Ravioli or the Cornish Hen … or all the desserts 😁🙃😉🤪😋 I ate so much I couldn’t just dance it off 🤣🤣 So I had to dance on the pedals today. I went North and then East to climb the Enniskillen Monster, then found fresh pavement further East and kept going. Lots of farmers working their fields .. it’s hay time and corn will be harvested soon! I eventually ran out of Eastern roads and went South to Lake Ontario. On the way, I found a cellphone on the road. As soon as I picked it up, it started ringing. I answered and told the guy where I was and waited for him. Good thing nobody drove over it! In Newcastle, along the WTF Trail, there’s this collection of gnomes and trail fairies and other interesting creatures. I haven’t been this way in ages so thought I’d check the new visitors. They move around quite a bit. All told, 114km and over 1,200m of climbing. Nice and hot day on the bike, with a bit of a wind and the odd cloud for shade. Quick rip out to Pickering tonight. Looking for a route with no wind .. figured ride big, ugly houses that look like mausoleums would do the trick. Guess what? They did 🤣🤣🤣 401 was lighter than normal for this time of day but my travel was still less hassle than the highway 😁😁 Out to Pickering via Rossland and Finch and then back along the WTF. That trail is a challenge between the midge swarms and the local pedestrians .. not sure which is more annoying. “Walk right! Passing on your left! Had an absolute blast ticking off a bucket 🪣 list item today! @b1performancecyclingstudio hosted a track day in combination with the @ontariocycling O-Cup road races at @ctmpofficial so regular cyclists like me 🙃😉🤣😵‍💫 could ride their bikes on the race track. It was exciting, stunning, epic and a whole out of fun! I would definitely do this again! In typical @willridesbikes fashion .. I rode to the park from home. So 31km there plus 35km on the track and then 35km coming home put me over 100km for the day. But let’s talk about the weather! That wind was INSANE!! O-M-EFFIN-G! It was fun with the wind at my back but as it picked up and got in my face … damn! The ride home was tough .. rain and straight into the wind. Good thing I was dressed for the conditions. The Great Cycle Challenge Canada is winding down and I’m fast approaching my goal of 1,500km for August. In typical @willridesbikes fashion, I didn’t just ride anywhere. I rode to Niagara Falls for the second year running, plus tacked on a bit of distance. @yess_noah and Feroz joined me to tackle the longest rides of their careers. We rolled through Durham and Scarborough, passing along the Toronto waterfront. In Mississauga, we met these two young ladies who were raising money for local charities themselves. We donated to them and they donated to me. These girls are doing things right. Way to go! We made it around Burlington into Hamilton and then followed Lake Ontario to Niagara-on-the-Lake before hanging a right towards the Falls. We arrived just at sunset as the lights came on. After 252km, we were done! We grabbed a bite to eat and then hit up @gotransit for the Weekend Pass $10 ride home. Good thing the train was empty… we were 1 bike over the limit🤪😁🤣 It was a crazy long day … 11 hours moving time and 20 hours total (including the transit home). Today’s ride started with a plan that I gave up on 🤣🤣🤣 So I rode where the damn wind blew me 🌬🌬🤣🤣 I just wanted to ride. My aimless wander took me through Uxbridge and up to Foster Memorial. Such a cool building with a poignant and sad story behind it. Then I found hills. And more hills 💖💖💖. I followed that road beyond the furthest hill you can see. The fields are changing colours .. rich golds and yellows and oranges… harvest is upon us soon. Then I saw my favourite flag. These are popping up everywhere .. a good sign ahead of the upcoming election. It’s refreshing to see so many people finally seeing him for what he is. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼 that he’s gone soon.
