The Lorax (2012) has a Shrek Number of 1. Dr. Seuss has a Shrek Number of 2 via the movie. Let me explain: Dr. Seuss wrote the picture book The Lorax . It centers upon a ruined, polluted landscape where colorful and fluffy Truffula trees were once abundant, but The Once-ler drove them to extinction while mass-producing a multipurpose clothing item called a Thneed, against the warnings of the Lorax, the bearded creature who “speaks for the trees”. The Once-ler recounts his story to a boy who wandered in, and entrusts to him the last remaining Truffula seed. The 2012 animated movie The Lorax by Illumination Entertainment added a new world and new characters before and after that central story. The boy who saw The Once-ler in the book is explicitly given a name: Theodore “Ted” Wiggins (after Dr. Seuss’s first name). lives in Thneedville, a walled city where everything is made of colorful artificial material like plastic and jelly; longing to see a real tree, he wanders outside the walls of the city, discovering the barren landscape from the original storybook. Central to the plot of the movie is the character of Aloysius O’Hare . He is the mayor of Thneedville, and the CEO of O’Hare Air, the city’s only source of fresh air. He is the main antagonist to Theodore, and tries to stop him from planting the last Truffula seed to preserve his monopoly on fresh air. Aloysius O’Hare is dubbed by Kōichi Yamadera , who also dubbed Eddie Murphy in many roles, including Donkey from Shrek . Other Lorax adptations have a Shrek number of at most 2 , of course including the possibility of a more direct connection to Shrek and therefore a lower Shrek Number. Cette iconographie symbolise la victoire de la foi chrétienne sur le paganisme et les forces du mal. Elle fait directement référence à la légende du saint qui, selon la tradition, aurait chassé les démons et les brigands qui terrorisaient les voyageurs dans les cols alpins, lieux où il fonda par la suite les célèbres hospices du Grand et du Petit Saint-Bernard.
« Se battre jusqu'au bout, dompter la peur de la mort » Tel était le serment que prêtaient les habitants de Martel (46) en 1357. Le texte de ce serment, en languedocien, garde toute sa puissance malgré les presque sept siècles qui nous séparent de l'époque où il fut écrit. Il faut garder à l’esprit que si les armes à distance (arbalètes, arcs…) étaient employées en masse durant la guerre de Cent Ans, le combat au corps à corps restait omniprésent. C'était celui où les adversaires se voyaient le blanc des yeux, où l'on sentait sa lame traverser les chairs et riper contre les os, les cranes éclater sous les coups de marteau. Contrairement à une grande partie de leurs adversaires, les citadins quercinois n’étaient pas des professionnels de la guerre. Le serment qu'ils prêtaient les enjoignait au courage en plaçant leur action au niveau de l'intérêt commun : la défense de leur ville. Ce serment est ci-dessous, en languedocien original suivi de sa traduction en français : ORIGINAL : « fo ordenat que hom fassa ffar a tota maniera de gens sagramen de ffeutat. La maniera del sagramen sera aquesta : Vos juratz que vos seretz bos e leyals al luec e a las gens de Martel, a honor del rey de Ffransa e dels senhors, e a proffegz del pays. E prometetz e juretz estar en vostra garda quan bezonh sera, e no partir daquela, ni aquela dezemparar per paor de mort duran le combatemen, ses licensa. Esseretz hobediens als cossols a las cauzas quesson de la garda e de la deffensa del luec de Martel. ». TRADUCTION : « il fut ordonné que l'on fasse faire à toutes les catégories de gens un serment de fidélité. La forme du serment sera celle-ci : Vous jurez que vous serez bons et loyaux au lieu et aux gens de Martel, à l'honneur du roi de France et des seigneurs [de la ville] et au profit du pays. Et promettez et jurez à être en votre garde quand besoin sera et ne pas partir d'icelle, ni la déserter par peur de la mort durant le combat, sans autorisation. Et vous serez obéissants aux consuls pour les choses qui regardent la garde et la défense du lieu de Martel. ».
