Thank you @warblingmoss for the WIP Weekend tag! Here is a snippet of a Leon/Elyan childhood friends to lovers I’m cooking up: Leon knocks on Gwen’s door, standing tall and proud, every inch First Knight of Camelot. “I’m sorry to impose so late,” he says when she opens it, his voice warm, always treating her with affection. “This man says he is your brother. Do you know him?” In answer, Gwen flings herself at the man, hugging him tight, his hood falling from his face. He laughs in what sounds like relief, hugging her back. Leon blinks, looks at the stranger— Elyan's—face now his hood has been thrown back. He’s different, changed since Leon saw him last but— “ Emmeline ?” Elyan opens his mouth to reply but is beaten by Gwen’s firm “no. ” Leon watches him clear his throat awkwardly. “That’s not my name anymore.” Leon looks between them, unsure, before he speaks again. “Elyan. My apologies.” He bows his head slightly, for it is a man that stands before him now, only as tall as his twin but much stockier, shoulders and biceps broadened with hard work. I never have any idea who to tag so if you feel like I miss you out please just take it as you’re tagged: @thesongistheriver @argentasterdisaster @cheesybug6
Merlin rewatch – S4E5: His Father’s Son See, the knights and Merlin are so happy together at the camp fire! What’s wrong with the last ep… And poor Arthur was in self-imposed isolation… The wistful look Arthur sent his knights (and Merlin) was just 🥺 So warm and affectionate and so so sad. He’d sported that kicked puppy face the entire episode. His smile stayed so SOFT even after he was caught staring. Love that he didn’t make awkward (bloke-y) attempts to hide his feelings. Or perhaps he’s just too emotionally exhauted to do anything about it. “We should all get some sleep.” That lingering look! He didn’t want to take his eyes off the people he treasured the most, knowing that there was every chance he would not see them again after the next day. So… it’s nice that everyone comes in to cheer Arthur up, but Merlin already told them that Arthur would hold himself responsibility should any of the soldiers die, how is telling him they would die for him cheer him up? I guess it’s to assure him that it’s their choice and they’re happy with it. I think Arthur knew that though. Also, I’m not sure Elyan is the best person to give grand speech, I feel like Leon is more suitable. Though it’s nice that they gave him important things to do. I do like that while Elyan and Gwaine stood at the front the entire time (because Elyan was speaking and Gwaine was close to Arthur…?), Leon stayed behind when the other’s were leaving and nodded to Arthur privately, showing that they had a relationship different from the other knights. (poor Percival…) So cute that Elyan shakes Merlin in excitement~ [S4E5] [other episodes]
elyan’s death was kinda stupid but poor gwen… the ep started with them both being at their father’s grave and ended with gwen losing a brother too… while also losing her mind… a husband or a child can be replaced BUT WHO CAN GROW ME A NEW BROTHER 🚬🚬🚬🚬🚬🚬
Merlin rewatch – S4E5: His Father’s Son Leon’s doing some fun faces in the background xd (well, all of their faces are quite fun actually) I feel like Leon looked a bit salty here. Got overrun by some newbies lol. If it’s s2 there wouldn’t be any competition as to who should be the champion. Arthur said that he’d decided who’s to be the champion and Leon nodded apprehensively, as if thinking “Of course. I knew Arthur wouldn’t forget about me 😏” Well, actually all four of them looked super confident it’s delightful. Objectively Elyan was the least likely to be chosen imo but he looked the most confident and gracious. Percival looked… a bit zoned out xd just waiting for the shoe to drop. Gwaine looked the most serious actually, like he was the only one who thought through the worst case scenario. Then Arthur took the fight. Leon was so mad lol. Super disapproving. Elyan too, but I feel like Elyan was more “I can’t believe you didn’t choose me” , while Leon was “how many times do I have to tell you that you can’t try to sacrifice your life every Tuesday”. Percival just looked disappointed that he didn’t get to fight. Gwaine I’m really not sure… He looked angry, also a bit repressed. It might be because he didn’t get a proper line in this episode. His emotions seemed very closed off. [S4E5] [other episodes]
Merlin rewatch – S4E10: A Herald of the New Age It’s interesting how the knights perceived Elyan’s action this episode. It’s good that they recognised the fact that Elyan’s sister was exiled and that did affect him. Better late than never… It also made for a relatively valid excuse to not inform Arthur something, even though I don’t think going into cantatonic state would make Arthur think his loyalty is divided… Unless he was referring to Elyan trying to attack them in a panic? It also implies that the knights didn’t think Arthur would be able to be considerate of Elyan for feeling for his sister… which I don’t like. Now that they had to arrest Elyan for trying to assasinate Arthur. They each approached it in a different way which is interesting. Leon, having served the crown loyalty the longest, couldn’t fathom that a knight would want to antagonise the king. Percival, perhaps because having lost his family to a king, perhaps being the more considerate, empathetic person in the mix, pointing out that Elyan has every reason to want to kill Arthur. Gwaine, possibly wanted to lighten the mood, or to evade the difficult dilemma at hand, made a joke about himself. From story telling perspective I think it’s clever to use the last episode’s event as a distraction to delay the reveal of what actually happened, both on Elyan and Arthur’s sides. On the other hand, it did seem to undermine Elyan’s (potential) distress over Gwen’s exile once the real reason of Elyan’s rebellion was out… I do appreciate that they at least didn’t pretend Elyan and Gwen weren’t siblings… it’s all we can ask of the show at this point. Also poor Elyan. He never got to show much of his character in episodes that seemed to be structured around him. The most he showed in this one was that he was a kind person who immediately sympathised with the ghost and offered comfort. Even that, it was unclear how much he was influenced by magic… [S4E10] [other episodes]
fill for @merlinmicrofic | creature | Elyan/Morgana, 100w, NAWA Elyan slips past the boundaries of his father’s lands and heads for the mortal lake hidden in the depths of the forest. He strips down to his underwear before plunging in. The hazy summer sun warms his lake-cooled skin as he floats, watching clouds pass. Movement disturbs the shore. He stands; nobody comes this way. Long black hair dances with the breeze. Wide, mismatched eyes follow his slow strides to the shore. “What sort of creature are you?” she asks, a fearless hand reaching out. “Elyan,” he replies, enchanted. “You?” Her fingers graze the soft felt of his antlers.“Morgana.”
why is it so common in fics to make gwen or elyan say “my father died because of magic” as a reaction to a magic reveal? it’s like so nonsensical and clearly a made-up reason for them to hate magic. i’m not saying it’s inherently ooc for them to have some ingrained prejudices towards it - that’s understandable if you consider they literally grew up in camelot… but it’s weird mental gymnastics to make their father’s execution a reason for them to hate magic more instead of uther’s laws? gwen and elyan would have known their father was a good man until the end, especially gwen, it makes no sense that they would blame magic for ‘corrupting’ him when they knew it hadn’t done any such thing. i think more than anything else their father’s execution would open their eyes to how paranoid uther is and how unnecessarily, over-the-top cruel his laws are… i could mayyyyybe be convinced that this event made them hate magic more because they conflate magic as a whole with the sorcerer that was responsible for involving their father in it… but it’s a stretch to be honest. canonically their views on magic are some of the most lenient out of anyone’s in the show. gwen showed zero hesitation or internal conflict breaking the laws to help save a druid and she canonically reacted to merlin’s magic in a way that can only be described as wholeheartedly accepting and actively welcoming. and regarding elyan, we have seen him be immediately empathetic to a druid boy, and we know he has travelled to many places, so it’s likely that he came across people and places that harboured less radical attitudes towards magic. again i think some ingrained bias makes sense but i think those preconceptions are not as strong as their conviction that their father was a good person until the end, and their conviction that merlin is a good person - gwen especially knows this. she has literally been shown aiding merlin in statue theft without asking any questions because she trusted him That much, and this was only in season 1, when their friendship was still new. he’s her best friend, call me crazy but i know for certain if she saw merlin do magic she would simply conclude that, if merlin did it, sorcery could not be so bad after all. finding out about his magic would not change her opinion on him, but rather on magic. i really think it’s weird that they are so commonly written as the characters who would have the most difficulty accepting merlin specifically because of their father’s execution. that’s a shit reason and also simply out of character for them. btw i’m talking specifically about the instances of either gwen or elyan reacting in a judgemental way in fics. id understand it if it were just a reason for them to be more worried about losing him to execution but this is often not the case in those fics. and i have to wonder why people try to paint them like this so often
