Something I love about my home state is that if you go north (which is like the whole point of most weekends) you get to be in the middle of nothing but trees, logging, oil, and the occasional town with insane tourist attractions. Another thing I love is our obsession with deer. (Explanation below) Im in a hotel for the night to avoid 4+ hours of driving in one day (and let’s be real to avoid a 5:30am wake up) for a meeting for my rural medicine internship. This is a perfectly reasonable thing, and while I’ve stayed in plenty of nicer places, I went as cheap and bedbug free as I could for the literal one weeknight I’m here. Everything goes fine. I have a gas station and coffee places nearby. It’s a good hotel to stay for one night, and the lady at the desk is helpful despite being apologetic because of their computer systems being down. Frankly, I’m just trying to juggle my two book bags and blanket. I get the keys, mosey down the hall, and find my room. It’s nice! Two beds, bathroom, nothing crazy. The ice machine is next door, and breakfast is down the hall. And then I look up and see him. ALT “Tumblr user falling astronauts, what’s the big deal? It’s a deer picture, you just said earlier you like deer!” In a sense, yes. But mister creeper deer here has a problem. Mister creeper deer stares directly at the beds. I am being watched by a deer, who is arguably in the most judgmental pose he could be in aside from standing on two legs and snapping in a Z formation. Ive been in this room since about 3pm (it’s now 10) and I still can’t get over him.
Keeping the Deer Out Just to preface this, I love animals. I really do, but why can’t they leave anything alone? They’re always getting into things and messing things up and eating things that aren’t theirs. Safe to say, I’m mad. Doing this garden is not easy. It takes a lot of work getting it ready in the spring, planting it, mulching it, keeping it clean from weeds, picking the vegetables when they’re ripe, and… Keeping the Deer Out
