David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars I grandi musicisti spesso sembrano avere un anno di grande creatività, fecondi dal punto di vista compositivo. L’album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the… David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
Album of the Day: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars by David Bowie What more is there to say about this album. Rightfully celebrated, one of the greatest albums of all time, the best glam rock album ever. David Bowie took everything that had been laid down by Iggy Pop, Marc Bolan and the Velvet Underground and combined it with his previous preoccupations – theater, dance, kabuki, pantomime, cabaret, science fiction – as well as putting his previous folk style to the side in favor of rock, pop, jazz, and metal. He created an incredible work that still sounds fresh today. The concept of the album was created after most of the songs were recorded: Bowie’s alter ego Ziggy Stardust is an androgynous, bisexual rock star sent to Earth as a savior before an impending disaster. Ziggy is embraced by fans but succumbs to his own ego. Bowie uses this as a meta deconstruction of the artificiality of rock music, while also exploring themes of sexuality, drugs, stardom, politics, identity, and social diversity. The album that finally propelled Bowie to stardom, the entire Ziggy Stardust era still comprises some of his best and most vital work. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars was released on June 16, 1972. (By coincidence, the same day as one of the other best glam albums of all time, the Roxy Music debut album, featuring Brian Eno.) Video: “Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide,” the album’s closer, something of an avant garde show song that ends the rock opera of the album on a triumphant note. “Oh, no, love, you’re not alone.” None of us are alone. Remember that, please.
16/06/2026 ☆(๑˙꒳˙)ฅ(ʾ˘ʿ๑)“ Today has been quite a long day—I had both a doctor’s appointment and an MRI scan. I was extremely anxious about the scan since I don’t handle loud noises well. Did you know an MRI machine gets as loud as 110-130 dB — the equivalent of a jackhammer? They provide you with noise cancelling headphones and I used doble protection as the technician let me keep my loop earplugs on. Still, it was really overwhelming (but I managed to get through the entire test in one sitting by singing Space Oddity in my head on repeat). Now I’ve got a bit of a migraine, tho. How are you guys doing? 🚀👨🚀
Whilst I’m on a roll here with celebrating album releases, happy birthday to one of the most influential albums of my lifetime. Usually I post music history on an accuracy-central basis, however I feel compelled to give praise to this iconically phenomenal album. The discovery of David Bowie as an artist, in absolution permanently altered the trajectory of my life. Thanks to Bowie, I pursued music both as a hobby and a passion. Arguably, this was a breakthrough release: “ The Man Who Sold The World” causing controversy in the United States only two years prior in 1970, simply because Bowie wore a dress on the album cover. I personally would claim that this album is where Bowie truly found his sound, and as the predecessor to “ Aladdin Sane” he had by this point garnered notoriety and a prominence in the music industry; all of this despite causing quite a stir in social culture at the time as a result of his flaming red mullet, and flamboyant makeup & clothing. The character of Ziggy Stardust is cosmically monumental. I wholeheartedly cannot express what this album means to me. My favourite songs off the top of my head are “ Soul Love” and “Hang Onto Yourself” . Happy birthday to “ The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars ” !!
