Not only was the main character Hira’s experience in American Fever relatable, but Dur E Aziz Amna writes so beautifully. The story is told completely from Hira’s POV and shifts from Pakistan to America, The thoughtful prose and observational comedy made it unlike any coming-of-age novel I’ve read. Some reviews said they found the main character ‘annoying’ but like, she’s a teenager? We were all a little insufferable at that age 😅 I’ll leave you with a couple of quotes from the book, I honestly bookmarked most of it but there’s a word limit here 🙈 “Conversation is what happens when you can’t say the things you want to.” “Those platitudes. He’s always used them, I will inherit them.” The commentary on motherhood was especially important to reflect on, such as: “Did she still not know how it worked? He was a father. She was a mother. His errors and cruelties I would forget, or at least learn not to hold against him. His acts of love - the jasmine buds he collected in a porcelain plate on spring mornings, the omelet he made one lazy Sunday, the times he took us to the doctor in a dusty ‘96 Corolla - were vividly imprinted on my mind as the events that they were. Hers - the lonely vigil over the cot, kettles of heated water for our baths, corrected homework assignments, matching socks - were the constant offices of love, invisible and uncounted.” As much as I loved this book, I know it is not for everyone. It is a coming-of-age novel, and Hira can be arrogant, but then again remember, she’s young and deserves grace. But, if you do decide to pick it up, and I sincerely hope you do, keep an open mind and be happy in knowing I am a tad bit envious because I want to read it for the first time again. 😅

After I Do By Taylor Jenkins Reid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 I read most of this in one sitting and that’s usually reflected in why I rate books so high. I know I’m hooked on the book if I read it in less than two days. After I Do follows the relationship of Lauren and Ryan. The book starts at the present while they’re in the middle of the fight and then shows us what’s led them to this point in the previous twelve years. After we know how they started and where they are now, the book continues in the present time. What starts as a sweet couple who love one another like crazy ends up as two strangers who can’t stand to be in the same room. They agree that a year of separation is the best plan moving forward. The book is only set in Lauren’s POV so we never see how this affects Ryan, but we do get some insight into his thoughts at a later point. Book Review - The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 By Taylor Jenkins Reid Okay, so I get the hype now. Aside from the Evidence of the Affair novella by TJR (read a few days ago) this is my first book by her and wow. Wow. Wowwww. It was heartbreaking, but the writing lured me in. I’ve been having trouble finding the hook with the first few chapters of books lately and this one had me in two. A million people have done full reviews so I won’t do one, but this is a top read. I think I’ll be buying more of her books😊 I tried tabbing the book but was so immersed that I forgot. It’s Not Summer Without You By Jenny Han ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ☀️As much as I enjoyed the first book in this trilogy, this second wasn’t my favorite. It took me a little over two months to finish it. ☀️While it was a good story, it wasn’t super captivating compared to the first book. Forever, Interrupted By Taylor Jenkins Reid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Libby app fully dictated when I read this story and I don’t regret giving in. Forever, Interrupted is about a whirlwind romance lasting six months. Elise and Ben meet and elope within that time. However, Ben is tragically killed nine days after their ceremony. The story follows Elise’s methods of coping and getting to know the mother-in-law she never met. Both have lost their husbands and most of their relationship is them supporting and being supported. I loved this story so much. The plot was heavy, but filled with a back and forth telling of how Elise and Ben’s relationship progresses and how she works through her new life once he’s gone.
