fun fact: The Transformers (1984)’s story actually has energon only existing once the bots reach Earth where Megatron starts using Earth energy to convert it into a source that Cybertronians can consume. The first scene of the show has Wheeljack and Bumblebee with some sort of energy sticks, and, if memory serves correctly, none of them were familiar with energon until they were on Earth. Additionally, I’m fairly confident energon was not their lifeblood in G1. Do with this information what you will. (This also likely explains why the bots being disassembled didn’t kill them, but vital injuries like Optimus had in the movie did kill him. Magnus literally falls apart into pieces and survives. Optimus was turned into an alligator in season 2. Energon is merely food for them.)
