Student Worker: is Worth It?
The academic world is extremely heterogeneous. The university classrooms are filled with the most varied types of people. Each one with its own personality and with its way of learning. Being a Student Worker Can you Fit this Job into Your Life? Some are easier to learn, while others have to push a little harder to fix the content. But what makes someone a good college student? Man do I related to “Satisfied” in Hamilton. I want to do so much and yet I can only do so little. My body can only handle so little. If it were up to me I’d work 16 hours a week and get straight A’s and be on the debate team and ride regularly and play lacrosse again and take dance lessons and start acting again and maybe even read every now and again. And as much as I know I have to be gentle with myself, as much as I know I’m recovering from my shit mental health and I’m still vulnerable, a part of me greatly resents that I have to consider myself in that category and wishing I was strong enough to do everything I want to do. Sometimes I feel like depression and anxiety has taken so much more from me than I ever realized. Just gotta keep going. I’ll get there one day. But I’m still unhappy about it.
I just worked an event..
That outside the university, the technician would be paid over $15/hr easily (in some cases up to $30/hr) and I got paid $8.75/hr for 10 hours. Just saying my time today was worth more than around 80 bucks and it is making it apparent how underpaid I am just because I’m a student worker.
Day 2 Come stà andando? KEEP CALM AND STUDY HARD To do list di domani: Esercizi Matematica 2 ore Studiare 4 ore Fare esercizi sui nuovi argomenti studiati 1 ora Domani riuscirò a fare tutto!!!
Hello and how are you I need some advice on how I can pass my A&P exams what is your best approach to studying I work 2 jobs to stay afloat but I need this as well greatly appreciated ?
for those who don’t know: A&P = Anatomy and Physiology Hi I’m doing great thank you, hope you are being able to find peace in the middle of your busy days and between all of the places you have to be. About studying while working, I’m not the appropriate person to give advice since I feel like it’s something you have to have the experience. But from what my friends who are student workers tell me, it’s about very rigid time management and prioritizing . Making sure you are using your time very efficiently . Also using the student workers benefits your college provides, especially when you can’t be in two places at the same time. Planning and studying weeks ahead is your best friend. But you most likely already know this at this point, working how you’re working, you need to know how to study hard and be disciplined already. However, regarding studying anatomy my friend: draw draw draw . And also youtube videos. :) Here’s what I wrote about studying anatomy . I haven’t taken Physiology yet, :(( but I have taken Biochem and Histology, and in this post I explain how I study effectively for it . Also please check out these: study techniques for finals , study less study smart , memorizing technique . I’m trying hard to write more but I think this is as far as I can give advice. I hope this helped and that you keep working hard. I have no idea about your situation and for how long you’re going to have to keep those 2 jobs. Please be aware of your health, physical and mental, even when it’s hard. Even when it’s hard, keep your heart light and head up, stay positive and think of brighter days. (i recommend Yoga with Adriene) Lots of love, anything else let me know

As a student worker I’m sometimes so salty, because yes, I do have a very cushy campus job as a lab proctor/tutor but sometimes I actually want to smack people. Please ask me questions, I would be more than happy to help you but please phrase your questions so I actually know what you are asking. Saying “I want to print the things” in no way tells me that you’re trying to print cell borders on an excel spreadsheet. Especially if you don’t even have excel open on your computer.
Losing patience.
So when’s my job gonna treat me like they care again? Like I know it’s a student work job but they expect full time work ethic and we give it with no appreciation from anyone except some lady in an elevator. I can’t even go in there between classes any more. I’m not the best worker but I’m one of the few that really knows what I’m doing. Anyways thanks IT I don’t know how much longer I’ll be there but it’s been a ride.
So you have to attend university and work? This requires way too much strength *sigh* I don’t envy you and I wish I could take half of the burden in your place *his shoulders slumps* but I can’t do anything if not supporting you and wishing you luck! You’ll succeed somehow I’m sure of it! *takes one slice and when he eats his eyes lit up* mhhhn this is soo freaking good! You have to tell that to F-F-Fu… ra…n ci…? ❄️—Thousand Winter (🐈⬛)
Mmm Chifuyu Franci, it’s Franci, you like it right? Told you they’re the best 💜 Yep I work to pay uni, but I’m going to finish working in a month, then I have to finish university in some month, mmmm *moan eating one slice and feelin so happy* pizzaaa yes!
So I work at the information desk at my college, and the only thing I can do there is do homework. And I do my homework, for the most part, when I’m not staring off into space because of boredom. Sometimes students will wait until I look up from my homework to ask their question, and I’m like??? yo, when did you get there??? Speak up because I might not look up for awhile. Odds are in your favor because I don’t want to do my schoolwork and would literally prefer pretty much anything else to it. If y’all want to talk about the what kept you up until 4 a.m., I wanna hear it. It’s probably more interesting than lesson planning. If you want to tell me about what your roommate did to piss you off and you want to let off steam? Do it.
ANYWAYS, sorry I’ve randomly disappeared for I don’t know how long but I’ve started school and got a student job please accept this photo from my first day of work as apologies
Student Perspective: The Heart of Curated Collections
“Processing a collection is where the true artistry of an archivist shines through.” “Processing is being the storyteller, the expert on the collection, carefully dictating how it will be perceived throughout its history in its institution…. Over time, [processing] gives everything its own individual breath of life. Each item becomes more than just the information at face value, it becomes something with its own story, its own history.” Read more from our fantastic student worker on CASPC’s blog, Creating Access .
I.T. Shouldn't exist on the weekends
Waking up at 7am on a Sunday isn’t even worth my paycheck. Next semester I’m going to be the asshole who refuses to take weekend shifts. No one ever calls, everything is fine, and yet I still have to deal with the angry user who’s complaining the the lights keep turning off. THE LIGHTS ARE MOTION-SENSORS. THERE’S NOTHING I CAN DO ABOUT THE LIGHTS TURNING OFF IF YOU’RE GOING TO SIT IN A COMPUTER LAB FOR 3 HOURS AND NOT MOVE.
Why are there no repercussions for people who never show up to work at Missouri State University? I mean, how many days are we students going to have to sacrifice our schedules because the full time staff aren’t going to be here? I get that emergencies happen but we are TIRED. There should be substitute staff members to cover so that students don’t have to work overnight on weeknights and in the middle of the school day. Not to mention, there is no avenue for recourse except directly through your boss, no way to organize, and no union. If there is a problem you can only report it directly to your overhead boss (who also controls everything about where you live) and there is no path for a higher chain of command. Who am I supposed to report it to if both of our full time staff workers keep calling out and we’re exhausted? Who is here to take our side? WHO IS HERE TO FIGHT FOR THE RIGHTS OF STUDENT WORKERS?
