Idek anymore I finally get why office jobs are soul-crushing man. Its just the same thing over and over again and try not to go insane. Sit in office chair challenge. Its crazy. God help me. I know it will be better, I mean im in a weird spot right now and once this week is over things will be better. At least my mentor says im making significant progress. I know I can keep this up for 2 more months at least. At least i have something to preoccupy myself to. At least i can use my phone a lot and no one cares. At least im by myself a lot. I am very fortunate to have this internship opportunity. At least it gets me prepared for my likely future. At least my first paycheck is on Friday and im going to get paid a shit-ton. Idk. But im losing the motivation to do EVERYTHING!!!! BY THE MINUTE!!!!!! God rest my soul. Actually, im going to hell, so, I guess the devil rests my soul?

I’m going into my senior year, and I want to be prepared. I really want to be an actress and filmmaker. My plan was to do some short films this summer, doing a dual enrollment theater college class next school year, and doing my community theater’s musical this year. But I also wanted to do an internship the following summer - summer ‘27. Does anyone have any advice/suggestions on what internship I should do, or anything else I should do to work towards an acting career? I’ve done acting classes before, but they were all in elementary school. I’ve practiced almost every day since kindergarten though, and I’d like to think I’m talented. If anyone has any advice, suggestions, tips, or places that they think I should apply, please let me know! xoxo, maddy
First Cut Productions | Noah Taylor | Blog Post #3 This week at First Cut, I was brought along to help out on the set of a commercial shoot for a construction company in New Bern. This was a really exciting opportunity for me, as it was my first time being a part of a commercial production (and my first non-student set). I shadowed Marc from First Cut, who had been hired as a grip for the day by Wil from Guerrilla Productions. The shoot originally had two locations (New Bern and Emerald Isle), but a third was added at the client’s request. This additional location required Wil, Marc, and me to alter/adapt our shooting schedule to make sure we finished getting the footage we needed of the different properties before sunset. Luckily, the shoots were fairly simple. They wanted interviews and B-roll of workers at their main office and an active construction site, as well as confessionals and B-roll of two homeowners who lived in one of the company’s recently built homes. With Marc’s guidance, I set up sticks, lights, and flags at each of the three locations. It was really cool watching Wil direct and interview the employees and homeowners. Getting a behind-the-scenes look at how an average talking-head/confessional-style commercial is made was super interesting. I wouldn’t say that grip work is what I would naturally gravitate towards, but doing it on this set was actually pretty fun. I was lucky that Wil and Marc were both patient and very willing to help me get the hang of it. This experience was something new and different for me, and while I had a basic understanding of the G&E world, I definitely learned a lot that I would have only been able to learn from being on set and getting hands-on experience.

I’m okay! (Trust me) (I’m not okay) If there was a world record for getting stuck in mentally exhausting internships, Id probably be one of the top candidates. Look, I had high hopes for this one, but dear god it just keeps getting worse. Even my parents don’t put this much pressure on me, and my parents are very asian! Anyways, to keep it short: I basically got stuck solving an impossible problem in a currently unexplored research area. Like the 100% not feasible kinda problem. Which by the way wasn’t even my idea! My supervisor (who doesn’t know shit about this field fyi) just kept on telling me to do it anyways. Despite explaining multiple times that the problem she wants me to solve is not feasible AND it was a problem completely unrelated to the domain. She was basically creating a problem which isn’t really a problem. I’ve had multiple breakdowns over this, because we have a 6 week deadline and I’m supposed to implement a MVP, run evaluation tests AND write a research paper on it within the time period, and if chinese PhD students with years of research couldn’t do it, how tf am i supposed to do this shit in a month? I’m just an idiot undergrad and this is an unpaid internship. Anyways she’s changed my requirements and scope multiple times instead of removing the impossible bit, so I would have to start from scratch again every time I went to her for help and she told me to “try” something. And what infuriates me the most is that she doesn’t even understand that her little “change” that she told me to try changes the project methodology entirely. And she’s changed objectives so many times, I can’t even explain the project to my peers any more. Oops this turned into a rant. But I still have 3 weeks left of this hell and now she wants the paper tomorrow and I haven’t written fuck all. I very desperately want to leave but I’ve come too far to give up now. This has occupied my brain so much that i couldn’t even do my daily leetcode and work on my own projects for my resume that I promised myself I’d do. And it hurts because those projects would add so much to my skills and knowledge, more than crying over this impossible internship would ever do. And it also hurts because all this time is gone and won’t come back. Anyways, look at dem crabss!! So cute
cons of doing an internship in a middle school: middle schoolers!!! they all look at me weird because I don’t have a uniform and I always follow a teacher I don’t like school school sucks I have to take the bus and today there was a creep in the bus pros of doing an internship in a middle school: kids can be fucking funny the teacher I’m with is nice I get throwbacks (actually that might be a con) one kid asked me if I was a boy or a girl!! (that was the best moment of my day)
hi! sorry to reach out to you from my Embarrassing Blog but i was just keyword searching ‘dbt’ and i saw a post of yours where you said that you’re a licensed therapist. i am also autistic and going through the process of learning to become a mental health professional, and my question is this: HOW THE FUCK DO YOU GET THROUGH INTERNSHIP/SUPERVISION? it feels completely impossible! my neurotypical supervisor clearly doesn’t like me/thinks i’m stupid and that don’t listen (i DO listen, i’ve been trying REALLY hard — she just talks way too fast and vaguely for me to pick up on what she’s saying to me) /literally insults me to my face. how did you get through it. what do i need to do 🥲
First of all, hi. :) I’m so sorry your supervisor is being a huge a-hole. My practicum/internship was literally awful. My first supervisor said something extremely homophobic in front of me to a client and then I transferred to a paid internship (thankfully) but had to share supervision with 4 other people and it was one hour per week. I did, however, have a supervisor like that when I first got out of grad school. She drove me into the ground. She literally made me cry on a daily basis. I made friends with my professors and asked for their help in developing. Practice your counseling skills outside of session with your friends (with their permission of course). Practice active listening (you don’t have to make eye contact but a neat trick is to stare at their face when they talk and try to look away when you talk). I use a lot of creative resources with my counseling and made sure that I was able to lean on my peers. I also looked up stuff online and watched counseling videos. This is a really great series: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOLJ21zMjcNQylSNbRTpUP2bWdF9CYGc3&si=mWe7c_FzKUG4-nGD PESI is a FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC resource for trainings. Most are cheap. If you can afford it, I HIGHLY recommend Lane Pederson’s DBT training and the training manual. Marsha Linehan is great and all, but Lane Pederson really expands on that. I guess my overall answer is: trainings outside of my shitty supervision then I got a new job, one that had a neurodivergent supervisor and left me the hell alone because they trusted me. I hope that answers your question! Feel free to add more!!
Campus to Corporate Chronicles: Preparing Gen Z for Workplace Success The Great Transition nobody truly prepares you for. For years, students are taught how to pass exams, complete assignments, and earn degrees. Then one day, they walk into their first workplace and realize that success in college and success in corporate life are two very different things. A high GPA doesn’t automatically translate into workplace effectiveness. Knowing the right answers doesn’t always mean knowing how to communicate them. And being talented doesn’t necessarily mean being ready. As Generation Z enters the workforce in larger numbers than ever before, organizations are discovering a significant challenge: bridging the gap between academic achievement and professional readiness. This is where the Campus-to-Corporate journey truly begins. Part 1: The Reality Shock Every fresher experiences it. The first few weeks at work often feel like entering a completely different world. In college: Deadlines are flexible. Feedback is occasional. Individual performance matters most. In the workplace: Deadlines impact entire teams. Feedback is continuous. Collaboration becomes essential. Many Gen Z employees enter organizations expecting rapid growth, flexibility and meaningful work. While these expectations are valid, they are often surprised by workplace structures, hierarchy, accountability and the pace of professional life. The transition can be overwhelming. Organizations that acknowledge this reality shock and provide structured onboarding and mentoring create smoother transitions and stronger employee engagement. Part 2: Communication Beyond WhatsApp Gen Z is the most connected generation in history. Yet many organizations report that communication remains one of the biggest challenges among young professionals. The issue isn’t a lack of communication. It’s adapting communication styles to professional environments. Corporate communication requires: Clarity Professional tone Active listening Constructive feedback Stakeholder management A workplace conversation isn’t a social media comment. An email isn’t a text message. A client presentation isn’t an Instagram story. The ability to communicate ideas clearly and professionally often becomes a greater differentiator than technical expertise. Professionals who master communication build trust faster, collaborate better, and progress quicker in their careers. Part 3: Emotional Intelligence at Work One of the most valuable skills for career success is rarely taught in classrooms. Emotional Intelligence. The workplace is filled with situations that require emotional awareness: Receiving criticism Managing pressure Handling conflict Working with diverse personalities Leading without authority Technical skills may help someone get hired. Emotional intelligence helps them thrive. Professionals with strong emotional intelligence demonstrate: Self-awareness Empathy Adaptability Emotional regulation Relationship-building skills In a rapidly changing workplace, emotional intelligence is becoming one of the strongest predictors of leadership potential and long-term success. Part 4: Professionalism in the Digital Age Gen Z has grown up in a world where everything is instant. Messages are immediate. Information is accessible. Responses are expected quickly. However, professionalism in the workplace extends beyond digital convenience. Professionalism today includes: Accountability Reliability Respectful communication Time management Digital etiquette Ownership of responsibilities Being professional is no longer about wearing formal clothes or using corporate jargon. It’s about consistently demonstrating credibility and trustworthiness. Organizations value employees who can be counted on, especially in uncertain environments. Professionalism remains one of the most timeless career accelerators. Part 5: Adaptability and Growth Mindset If there is one workplace skill that defines success in 2026 and beyond, it is adaptability. Technology is changing faster than ever. Industries are evolving. Roles are transforming. Skills have shorter life cycles. The professionals who succeed are not necessarily those who know the most. They are the ones who learn the fastest. A growth mindset encourages individuals to: View challenges as opportunities Learn from mistakes Seek feedback Embrace continuous learning Stay resilient during change The future belongs to learners, not just experts. Organizations increasingly look for employees who can evolve alongside changing business needs. Adaptability is no longer a competitive advantage. It is a necessity. Part 6: Building Leadership Early Leadership is often misunderstood. Many people believe leadership begins when they receive a promotion. In reality, leadership begins long before a title. Leadership starts with: Taking initiative Solving problems Supporting teammates Demonstrating accountability Influencing positively The most successful professionals don’t wait to become managers before acting like leaders. They develop leadership behaviours from day one. Organizations that invest early in leadership development create stronger talent pipelines and future-ready workforces. Similarly, young professionals who cultivate leadership skills early position themselves for accelerated career growth. Leadership isn’t a destination. It’s a mindset. The Way Forward The transition from campus to corporate is no longer simply about finding a job. It is about building the skills, mindset, and behaviours needed to thrive in a complex and rapidly evolving workplace. Degrees open doors. Skills create opportunities. Mindset sustains success. As Gen Z continues to reshape the workforce, educational institutions and organizations must work together to bridge the gap between academic learning and workplace readiness. The future belongs to professionals who can communicate effectively, adapt continuously, lead authentically and connect meaningfully with others. The Campus-to-Corporate journey is not just the beginning of a career. It is the foundation of a lifetime of growth. About Mentora At Mentora, we help students, fresh graduates, and emerging professionals successfully transition from campus to corporate through experiential learning, emotional intelligence development, leadership training, employability enhancement and workplace readiness programs. Because preparing for work is about more than getting hired—it’s about being ready to succeed.

When I gotta watch over kids taking a test I install what I call “cheating time” No one is aware of it but me, but basically in the last 10-5 minutes of the test I stop caring if you cheat and go obviously do something else on my phone or something My reasoning is that if in 5 minutes cheating is what gets you a good grade then you’re either super duper fast or you weren’t that far off anyways And if you still manage to get caught when I’m not even really looking then really it’s on you at this point It serves no purpose except making my own life a little bit spicier. Is it good for the kids ? Does it teach them anything good ? Is it moral ? Probably not but who cares. I’m pretty sure they’re too dumb to notice I do it everytime anyways

How’s it Going? (Wk3-06/01/26) Honey Head Films This week at HHF, I got to do a lot of hands-on work. Specifically, I attended an event hosted by Wilma magazine that featured some of the most talented and accomplished women in the Wilmington area. Being able to attend that event and help delegate the interviews was so much fun, and it was very inspiring to see such a large room of successful women from a diverse range of careers. My main role for the interviews was to hook each interviewee to a mic pack, which became easier as the evening went on. However, a challenge of that task was navigating the stunning and unique outfits the attendees had worn; each one posed a different challenge in how best to conceal the LAV. The other large part of this week was meeting with some very talented women in the local Wilmington film industry, whom we hope to have work with us on the feature project HHF is currently developing. I made a general script breakdown of specific set pieces and prop call-outs to reference during the meeting, and we also discussed things that would be implied in building the world of our story, that may not be directly listed in the script. Being able to see two people, specifically, two women, who are successful in the production design aspect of the local film industry was reassuring. It reminded me that I am on the right path and that my drive and tenacity will hopefully get me to where I am now. It’s hard to believe that my time with HHF is halfway over, and I am really excited to see where these connections take me as I stay in the local area for my career. I hope to keep in touch with all of the wonderfully talented folks whom I have had the privilege of meeting. As for what is in store for me next week, the status is TBD, but I will update everyone at the end of the week on what I accomplish! See you all then. - Eva C.
