Autism and Autism-Specific Therapy: My Path to Understanding 🧩 When I was first diagnosed with autism, I felt a mix of relief and uncertainty. Relief because I finally had an explanation for my experiences, and uncertainty because I didn’t know what this meant for my future. That’s when I started autism-specific therapy with Dr. Thompson (Not his real name). Dr. Thompson specializes in therapies tailored to the unique needs and experiences of individuals with autism. Our sessions are a mix of cognitive-behavioral therapy, social skills training, and sensory integration techniques. But more than the specific methods, it’s Dr. Thompson’s understanding and empathy that truly make a difference. In our sessions, I’ve learned to better understand my sensory sensitivities, to manage my anxiety, and to navigate social situations. We’ve worked on everything from understanding non-verbal cues to practicing self-advocacy. Dr. Thompson has also helped me celebrate my strengths and see my autism as a part of who I am, not something that defines me. Autism-specific therapy has been a transformative experience for me. It’s helped me understand myself better, equipped me with strategies to navigate the world, and most importantly, it’s helped me embrace my autism as a part of my identity.
Autism and Qualified Assistance: My Journey Towards Independence 🤝 As an individual with autism, navigating the world can sometimes be a challenge. I remember feeling overwhelmed by social interactions, struggling with sensory overload, and grappling with the intricacies of daily life. That’s when I was introduced to the concept of qualified assistance. My qualified assistant, Sarah, has been a game-changer in my life. She’s not just a professional trained in understanding and supporting individuals with autism, but she’s also become a trusted friend and ally. Sarah helps me with a variety of tasks - from managing my schedule and helping me prepare for social situations, to providing strategies for dealing with sensory overload and anxiety. She’s there to provide support when I need it, but she also encourages me to develop my own skills and independence. One of the most significant aspects of our relationship is the respect for my autonomy. Sarah understands that I am the expert on my own experiences, and she always takes my input and preferences into account. With Sarah’s help, I’ve been able to navigate the world with more confidence and ease. I’ve learned strategies to manage my anxiety, developed skills to handle social situations, and gained a greater understanding of my own strengths and abilities. Qualified assistance has been an invaluable resource in my life, providing me with the support I need while empowering me to live my life to the fullest.
Autism and Astronomy: My Love for the Stars 🌌 Ever since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated by the night sky. As an individual with autism, the predictability and vastness of the universe captivated me. I would spend hours gazing at the stars, learning about different constellations, and dreaming about what lay beyond our planet. My passion for astronomy led me to join local astronomy clubs, attend star-gazing events, and even invest in my own telescope. I’ve spent countless nights observing the celestial bodies, tracking the movement of planets, and marveling at the beauty of meteor showers. Astronomy has given me a sense of perspective and wonder. It’s a reminder of our place in the universe, and the endless possibilities that exist beyond our own world.
A uti sm and Trav el: Adv entur e s and Ch allen ge s 🌍 As an individual with autism, traveling can be both an exciting adventure and a daunting challenge. New places mean new experiences, but they also mean new sensory inputs and disruptions to routines. I remember my first trip abroad. The unfamiliar sounds, the different foods, the change in routine - it was overwhelming. But it was also an opportunity to grow, to learn, and to experience the world in a new way. Now, I always make sure to plan ahead. I research about the place I’m visiting, prepare a detailed itinerary, and pack sensory aids like noise-cancelling headphones and fidget toys. Traveling with autism isn’t always easy, but with the right preparation, it can be an incredible journey.

Exposure Training, A Different Kind of Pleasure The first time I went out with her while she was tied, my own feelings were not the same as usual. On the surface it looked like an ordinary walk, but the fact that she was walking beside me in restraints made me strangely tense. Her body was hidden under a coat so that no one could easily notice, but the thought kept running through my mind: what if the wind blew and revealed something? When I deliberately shifted the coat at her side to expose a little, the way she suddenly blushed and looked startled gave me a special thrill. At the same time, sensing her breath quicken as her embarrassment deepened reminded me strongly that I was the one leading this moment. When we passed through a crowded street, my own heartbeat quickened as well. Watching her tense steps, I wanted to keep her from being discovered while still heightening her excitement. On the other hand, when we stopped in a quiet alley or near a window, I felt a sudden impulse to be more daring, and a sense of adventure surged within me. But as time went on, her fingertips began to grow cold, and her face looked a little tired. I realized that while finding pleasure in exposure training was important, it was just as important to carefully watch over her condition and take responsibility for her well-being. So I kept checking her eyes and reactions to make sure she was okay, and in the end I chose to finish within about one to two hours, without pushing her too far. On the way back, when she showed a mix of relief and a subtle sense of satisfaction, I felt it deeply as well. That experience was more than just the thrill of exposure — it carried the meaning of a special bond and tension created together, while protecting and supporting the one beside me. 30s male Dom based in Republic of Korea Seoul, Gyeonggi, or Gangwon. Autism and Self-Care: Prioritizing My Well-being 🌱 As someone on the autism spectrum, self-care is an essential part of my routine. It’s about recognizing my needs and taking steps to meet them. Whether it’s taking time to stim, finding a quiet place to decompress, or engaging in a favorite hobby, these self-care practices help me manage stress and maintain my well-being. One of my favorite self-care activities is going for walks in nature. The quiet and calm environment helps me relax and recharge, and the gentle sensory input from the rustling leaves and chirping birds is soothing. Remember, self-care is not selfish. It’s an important part of taking care of your mental and physical health.
I love Mama’s Buttered and Garlic Shrimp <3 Does anyone here want Buttered and Garlic Shrimp as much as I do? ‘Cuz man, oh man, I’m craving it right now just by thinking about it! What’s funny is that I just had that recently, PFFT- You can tell that Buttered and Garlic Shrimp is my favorite just by the first part of my writing. But to be clear, my mom’s way of cooking buttered shrimp is my all-time favorite! I should’ve saved the last shrimps to picture and put it in my food writing… but- oh well, I couldn’t help myself! The sweetness of the sauce, the buttery, never-hollow shrimp, regardless of size, and a mix of garlic and other ingredients just make my mouth watery. It lightens up my day every time when Mama cooks them. What makes it all better for me is enjoying every intake using my hands. OH, NOW I WANT BUTTERED SHRIMPS- why am I doing this to myself? No, seriously, I’m craving it right now while writing this down. ENOUGH WITH THE CRAVINGS- LET US MOVE ONTO ITS HISTORY- Let me share it briefly, please- it’ll distract me from these cravings, hopefully. It’s believed that this classic Filipino dish originated during the Spanish colonial era when butter was introduced to Filipino cuisine. Its roots can be found in the coastal regions of the Philippines, where seafood is abundant (Maggi, n.d.) . For the ingredients and cooking process, you’ll need: 500 grams of shrimp Cooking oil ¼ of butter 6 cloves of garlic salt and pepper 3 tablespoons of oyster sauce 1 tablespoon of ketchup 1 tablespoon of brown sugar ½ cup of Sprite Slurry (1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water) Clean and devein the shrimp, and leave the tails intact for an attractive presentation (Maggi, n.d.). Heat the pan a bit, then put the cooking oil in it. After putting cooking oil, cover the pan with ¼ of the butter. Then, put 6 cloves of garlic and mix it with the butter you’ve put earlier. Add salt and pepper to taste, 3 tablespoons of oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon of ketchup, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, ½ cup of Sprite, then cook it up by mixing it until the sauce is reduced. Then, add the shrimp and cook for 3-5 minutes. Add the slurry to thicken the sauce. And that’s how Mama cooks my favorite buttered shrimp! The recipe she uses was actually made by Yummy Kitchen . Only that she doesn’t apply fried garlic and spring onions, which are optional. I think I’m gonna end it here, or else I won’t get out of the pit I put myself into, WHEEZE- ANYWAY! Until next time! ( ^ )–( ^ ) ALT This isn’t exactly my Mama’s buttered and garlic shrimp. This pic is from Peachy’s blog in The Peach Kitchen (2023) to give you an idea of how the food looks like!
Autism and Pets: The Bond of Unconditional Love 🐾 Having a pet can be a wonderful experience for individuals with autism. Pets provide companionship, unconditional love, and a sense of responsibility. I have a cat named Whiskers. She’s been my constant companion, providing comfort and companionship. Her soft purring is a soothing sensory experience, and taking care of her gives me a sense of purpose. Pets can be more than just animals; they can be friends, confidants, and a source of unconditional love and acceptance.
