Eingereicht von Sascha S. Einen Blick in den Himmel Südafrikas verändert alles ….. Stunden lang saß ich im “Naries Namakwa Resort” bei Sprinbok im Namaqua Gebirge vor meinem Steinbungalow und beobachtete einen Sternenhimmel wie ich ihn noch nie zuvor gesehen hatte. Ein einzigartiger Moment in meinem Leben das steht fest. Fast nirgends wo auf der Welt lässt sich ein so klarer Sternenhimmel beobachten wie hier. Da es in dieser Region kaum Lichtverschmutzung gibt lassen sich tausende Sterne mit dem bloßem Auge erblicken. Nicht zu vergessen die Milchstraße, so unfassbar zum Greifen nah! Allein für solch einen Anblick lohnt sich schon eine Reise nach Südafrika ins Namaqua Land.

When I found this adult big female Namaqua chameleon (Chamaeleo namaquensis), she was already on a mission that morning. She was walking across small dunes and gravel plains, probably in search of a good deposition site. I followed here a little while, taking various shots and then left her to its own destiny. The Herero and Namaqua Genocide During the “Scramble for Africa”, Brittan showed a lack of interest in the predominantly desert area of South West Africa. It was declared a German protectorate in 1884 and named German South West Africa (Deutsch-Südwestafrika). German settlers were encouraged to settle on Herero land which caused a great deal of discontent. From the 1890’s - the colonial government gradually deprived the Herero and Nama of their nomadic freedoms and livelihood. A plague known as the Rinderpest decimated Herero and Nama cattle throughout the late 1890’s. German encroachment on the pastoral way of life together with hunger, prompted the Herero uprising in 1904. It was led by Herero Supreme Chief Samual Maharero. source
