I am making a tournament plan for next year. This season, Emily and my husband are traveling together to regional and national competitions. Next year, Eleanor and I will join them. I have been working with Josh and physical therapists to see how he can participate in our family vocation of fencing. For decades, I have worked to develop a network of specialists to help my family fence. From transportation to food, we have the capacity to care for small and medium sized groups. I observe my kids and their friends to determine what they need to move up to the next level. And then I incorporate appropriate resources into future experiences.
I try to recreate restaurant meals at home. Josh sprays canola oil on french fries for an extra crispy exterior. I have experimented with dried, frozen, fresh, and homemade noodles. When I achieve success, I take pictures and email recipes to myself and all three children. And then I continue to experiment and refine quantities. Leftover ingredients never go to waste. Tapioca starch thickens fruit pie fillings. I mix rice flour with wheat flour to achieve crispy bread crusts. Emily is a much better cook than I am, so she often teaches me recipes she learned in college.
dear diary my little love here with me is 3 months old - she turns 4 months next week so far, being a mum means looking after a really cute baby that likes me, it means breastfeeding, it means taking good care of myself so that I can show up for her (eating as well as possible, staying hydrated, making sure I sleep enough) being a mum also means being unavailable all the time but also available all the time (on account of not working at the moment, maternity leave) it’s wanting to do things and see people and make the most of each day where I have lots of free time but also not being able to do Things because I’m wary of the fact that my time and my energy isn’t just my mine; it’s my child’s too. Because of her, I have to always have just enough energy to take care of her so it’s a balancing act of being myself and making sure I live my life but also remembering I am not my own anymore, I have to make sure she’s good. I have a husband that takes care of us but ultimately I am Mother, this is my responsibility (one of many, obviously, I am still me) I like being a mum of my little love, she makes being a mum fun. I still am not the biggest fan of All Babies, but I do like mine :) I like that I don’t feel like I’ve ’lost myself’. Before being a Parent I thought that as soon as you become a Parent, you’re in a constant up hill battle of ‘trying to get back what you’ve lost, of trying to ‘find yourself again’’, but I’ve never stopped being me. I just have someone else to take care of all the time, alongside myself Who knows, this sentiment may change, I might lose myself. Then again I only have 1 3-month-old baby, maybe that’s something that happens with older children/ more children We will see
It’s been irritating the shit out of me that the kids are down to minimal pairs of socks each. I was about to pull the plug on ordering more because we didn’t have enough to make it through an entire week. I knew I had purchased socks - several times - so I started investigating earlier. Turns out, when I do the laundry, I have a basket that I keep stray socks in, and then I have the kids put away their clothes. When C does, he puts the mates in the kids drawers. I found 10 plus pairs of socks. It’s not much, but it’s an honest days work.
I bought Eleanor a bouquet to dissect for biology class. Using a tiny scissors and tweezers, she removed the stamens, pistil, petals, and sepals. After taping them to a paper towel, she wrote about the role that each part plays in creating the next generation of plants. I gave my daughter a vase and a crystal flower bowl to arrange the rest of the bouquet around her work area. Most of my precious possessions originate from New York City in the 1980s. I have spent decades collecting housewares and accessories from that era. I tend to buy in clusters since groupings of specific items often become available at the same time. As my kids grow up, I give them high-quality gifts in perfect condition from my childhood.
We celebrated Grandma Honey’s BIG day, while Harry ran back and forth to the bar to watch the Knicks win it! The last time Harry celebrated a New York team championship, he was still in High School. Lots of family stuff this week, we went to the movies, and started a new/old binge. Here is the ultimate blueprint to keeping your baby cozy, stylish, and smiling through every single season. Dressing your little girl in beautiful outfits shouldn’t mean sacrificing her skin health or freedom to explore. Coarse materials can easily irritate a baby’s sensitive skin, making soft fabrics like bamboo viscose the gold standard for everyday wear. By choosing relaxed-fit [seasonal baby dresses], you ensure your daughter can crawl, play, and be held by relatives without feeling restricted. Smart parents know that layering with soft cardigans is the secret weapon to beating unpredictable weather or overheated rooms. Plus, choosing smart designs with diaper-friendly features like built-in snap bottoms makes quick changes entirely stress-free. Today the trolls started their summer break. The big troll will start 7th grade after the summer and is moving on to a new school. Exciting and a bit nerve-wracking, everything is new. All his classmates are going to one school together, but we chose a school that we think will be good for him. Luckily, one of his friends also got into the same school he will go to, so they’ll have each other. And the little troll will start 2nd grade after the summer. Time really goes so fast. Now I’m hoping we’ll have a good summer. ☀️
