N.O.R.E. ain’t happy and he’s letting everybody know it. In a Twitter rant on Wednesday night, the Capone-N-Noreaga rapper is wondering why a lot of rap artists continue to do interviews with media who are not involved in the “culture’’ such as David Letterman, Zane Lowe, Oprah and Ellen. In the process, he also mentioned how he’s been “the best to this culture” and has always put “hip-hop first.” N.O.R.E. wrote, “I have been the best to this culture I have always put hiphop first and I see u guys go to Ellen and David letterman’s and Zane lows and treat them wit more respect then the culture but u say u want black excellence.” He continued, “Imma be honest even going to Oprah or gal is trash at this point !!! We control our in culture why go outside of it!!!” Although he mentioned how Letterman is his “favorite,” he also noted that other shows in the “culture” like Million Dollars Worth of Game and Joe Budden Podcast would be better options than going to Letterman or Ellen. He wrote, “David letterman is my favorite but man why go there or Ellen before million dollars worth of game or joe or the champs or even twitter shit!!!” Some people seemed to think that N.O.R.E.’s thoughts were spawned by Cardi B’s appearance on Letterman’s Netflix show My Next Guess. However, in a responding tweet, the rapper clarified that he was not talking about the “I Like It” rapper. Despite N.O.R.E.’s recent feelings, the rapper has been doing pretty well for himself on his Revolt-aired show Drink Champs with co-host DJ EFN, which is known for its long-form interviews and getting guests a little tipsy while asking them a myriad of questions. He recently did interviews with A$AP Rocky and The Game, but is mostly known for his interview with Kanye West in November and takes credit for getting people to love the Donda rapper again. —Noah A. Method Man says that young artists are better off not signing to labels owned by fellow artists because their music will also come second to that artist. The legendary Wu-Tang rapper explained his opinion on the matter during a recent interview with Math Hoffa for My Expert Opinion. “I always felt like you can’t sign to somebody who still trying to be an artist,” Meth explained. “It’s hard. Hip-hop’s intergenerational conflict had seemingly died down in recent years, thanks in large part to collaborations crossing the age divide, like “Replace Me” which saw Nas connect with younger rapper Don Toliver. However, it appears it was still right there, simmering beneath the surface, waiting for someone to light the spark to reignite it. The hosts of The Breakfast Club came close when they teased Coi Leray about listening to Pusha T, but she defused the situation by saying she’d rather collab with him than start a beef. Unfortunately, it looks like one of Coi’s collaborators had some further thoughts about the new rapper/old rapper dynamic and finally touched off the conflagration that had been waiting in the wings. Pontiac, Michigan rapper DDG, who recently released his Gunna collaboration “Elon Musk,” shared his thoughts on Twitter, drawing a polarized response from followers who weighed in with a variety of opinions from agreement to disbelief to outright refusal. “Today’s rappers are 10x better than the rappers back in the day,” he wrote. When fans blasted him for it, he offered some controversial follow-up takes. When one fan brought up Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G., he shot back, “On some real sh*t.. when the last time u listened to either in the car.. BE TRUTHFUL.” The debate quickly became a rehash of the “mumble rap” debates from a few years ago — y’know, the one where people acted like they can’t just understand accents or that repetitive choruses are somehow a new phenomenon in rap.
