When Your Patio is a Concrete Prison (And You Want Out) This weekend, I finally admitted it: my patio is depressing. It’s this sad little square of cracked concrete that feels more like a landing pad than a place to actually hang out . But it also gave me hope. What I loved was how they talked about materials matching the style of the house. Our place is kinda rustic, so the idea of bluestone or irregular flagstone with creeping thyme between the cracks? Chef’s kiss. And a fire pit built into the design, not just plopped on top? Yes. A thousand times yes. I’m still weighing costs (RIP my wallet), but for the first time, I can actually picture a patio that feels like an extension of our home.
