Charli XCX wore flowers to the Met Gala. The theme was Fashion Is Art. We’ve been saying this for 24 years. Flowers are not décor. They are a design decision. They change the feeling of a room the way a look changes the feeling of a runway. They communicate taste, intention, and identity before a single word is spoken. At Eikaebana, we’ve been supplying the flowers that make spaces feel like something since 2001. The Met Gala gets one night a year. Our buyers get 365. “Becoming the Blueprint: Music, Fashion, and the Art of Building My Own World” I am an African American woman in my late 30s, and I’m currently in a season of building, learning, and becoming in real time. I’m in school for music business, music production, fashion, and media communications. I’ve been moving through all of these fields at once because I don’t see them as separate parts of my life. Music, fashion, and media all speak to the same thing for me: expression, identity, and storytelling. I’m learning how to shape that into something real and sustainable. I’m also starting to step more intentionally into my online presence. I’m building a YouTube channel, I have a Tumblr, and I’m slowly creating a digital space that reflects who I am and what I love. Right now, it’s still forming, but that’s part of what makes it exciting for me. I’m not trying to rush the process. I’m trying to understand it. I love all forms of art. I’m drawn to abstract work, things that don’t always explain themselves immediately but still carry emotion and meaning. At the same time, I don’t connect with everything in the art world, and I’m honest about that too. I don’t personally resonate with Picasso’s work, even though I understand his place in art history. I’m someone who experiences creativity in layers. I think in sound, I think in visuals, I think in feeling. Fashion is something I approach like storytelling. Music feels like structure and emotion at the same time. Media feels like learning how to be seen clearly without losing depth. I’m still becoming, still refining, still discovering what my full creative voice looks like. But I know I’m building something that is mine.
i think the met gala is good for keeping the arts alive and thriving and donating money to such things, however i do think that it’s a major distraction from everything going on in the us and not to mention The Wars And Genocide. Do i think we need to cancel ur fave celeb who went bc they’re “not woke enough as we thought”? no, i mean sure they can donate money to good causes/speak out against the iran war, gaza genocide, or even ICE and other domestic issues, but for example what’s hudson williams from the gay hockey show gonna do about billionaires controlling the world. there are many celebs/influencers at the met that do support good causes and are good people that just so happen to be good at something enough to make them famous, so why not dress up in an extravagant fashion piece and serve face? it’s not the fashion and art of the met that’s the problem, it’s the ignorance and tone deafness that keeps happening every year that nobody seems to put an end to. why don’t they raise awareness or have a fundraiser at the met for a certain issue each year? the people that run this have the power to do so. if they really care about the arts, they would care that everyone gets to have that privilege, especially palestinians, iranians, sudanese, congolese, you name it. anyway happy met gala 2026, everyone i’ve seen is looking lovely even tho i’m not a big fan of anyone there in particular.
