We hear you attended and studied at Brown University, but we also heard there were some lean years following college. Can you elaborate? My concentration (Brown didn’t believe in the term “major”) was Theatre (which maybe explains why I was broke after college, although I’m not sure an undergraduate degree is a good indicator of future profession). A few things about the lean years: first, people like to make that time out as worse than it was. I was 23 or so, I had lots of friends to crash with, and I had a family who, while maybe not in the best financial shape, would have always provided food and shelter. Poverty is a relative thing and many people had it a lot worse than me. If anything I see my experience as relatively privileged because I always had a community of people who loved me and wanted me to succeed . I was never afraid of starving…. I could have called Mom’s and gone home to California (which I eventually did). Second: I’m not convinced the lean years are done. // Daveed Diggs for Visual Tales Magazine
Zendaya is calling out a magazine for photoshopping her hips and torso Zendaya is a boss. We all know this. This is a fact. “I’m all for people asking actresses more intelligent questions. Just because you’re wearing a nice dress doesn’t mean you don’t have any ideas. It’s a shame to reduce smart, talented women to clothes models. But you can be a feminist and femme. I don’t see how those things contradict each other.”
Taraji P. Henson does awesomely “freeing” photo shoot showing off her weave The Empire actress took to her Instagram on Wednesday to debut her latest photo shoot, for CR Fashion Book, in which she ditches her wig, leaves the weave and shows off her natural hair braided into cornrows for the first time in her career. The photos are simple and stunning — but for Henson, they’re making a brave statement laden with personal meaning. Follow @stylemic
