Nothing like driving 400 miles round trip to spend 5+ hours at a show where we spent actually maybe a grand total of 10 minutes doing what we went to do 🫩😮‍💨 But also no regrets because now Scoops has a Professionally Rated “normal” OFA score for his heart, AND went 4/4, 100% no notes on his first temperament test! We’ll just need to do 1 more for a title(but we got a cute ribbon). Also our first time in a ring of any type together and a reminder that I’ve done good with him and I can trust him. We were supposed to do our first Rally but through a comedy of errors it didn’t work out but I feel so much more confident going for it as soon as we can. You wouldn’t have been able to tell he hasn’t been at a show in a year and a half, such a good young man except for when we had to wait our turn and then he was a whiney baby brat who has suffered more than anyone else ever in the whole world. We were just messing around with proofing behaviors today and I’m so glad I got this on video. I’m continuously amazed with Fig’s resilience and problem solving. The challenge was just supposed to be that I hid the leash from him, not that it’d get stuck. This is exactly what I hoped to build with how I’ve raised him. Because it’s been a while since I’ve had a puppy in my house prior to him, I made several different choices. He’s also different from my previous dogs in that I’ve had to actively build these traits. No matter what sport or life goals you have, a dog that can independently problem solve to complete a task correctly is at the core of it. It was hard for him and you can tell by the little victory lap at the end, but it’ll only serve to further build his self confidence for the next time he faces a challenge.
