Does the Kindest Kid Award actually encourage kindness? At first glance, this seems like a fabulous idea! One I possibly would have thought of myself but my parenting experience has lead me to a different understanding. They have a “kindest” kid award in my child’s class. After many tears about trying to be so kind and not getting the award, I have realized that the award is given to the most compliant and obedient child, not the kindest. The one who… Does the Kindest Kid Award actually encourage kindness?

this text was in my dream: god, are you complaining that animal intelligence isn’t close to human? What about learning, individual development, tool use, culture, sociality, cooperation, calculus, falling in love, making plans, finding partners, forming families, migrating, trust, caring, adopting children, empathy, selfishness, killing for fun, masturbation, rituals, submission, mindless pacing, awareness of death, facial recognition, names, the ability to enjoy, the ability to play, the ability to build, the ability to see connections, the ability to reason logically?
What Is Your Cat Saying? What Your Cat’s Face Is Telling You? Cats communicate in more complex ways than many realize. Recent research, published in Behavioral Processes, revealed an intriguing finding: cats use up to 276 distinct facial expressions to interact with each other and potentially with humans. This discovery sheds new light on the emotional intelligence and social skills of cats, showing that they possess a… What Is Your Cat Saying?

A research into cat behavior shows that domestic cats regard humans as social peers rather than superiors, often perceiving their owners as large, awkward kittens. Far from being aloof or defiant, a cat’s apparent indifference stems from a profound interspecies mismatch in social expectations. As anthrozoologist John Bradshaw explains, cats—unlike dogs—never evolved to recognize humans as dominant leaders or authority figures. Instead, they filter all interactions through an exclusively feline framework. Behaviors like kneading on your lap or licking your hair are not mere displays of affection; they are the same grooming and bonding rituals cats reserve for close kin or pride members. In their eyes, we are simply enormous, somewhat clumsy fellow cats who require inclusion in the group. This absence of hierarchical deference accounts for cats’ frequent disregard of commands or household rules. Treating us as equals, they follow cat-to-cat social protocols in every encounter. The “gifts” of dead prey on the doorstep or constant shadowing around the home are acts of care toward what they see as a big, furless, rather inept companion. Recognizing this mindset transforms the human-cat relationship from one based on authority and obedience to one of mutual companionship. It turns out that while many owners believe they have domesticated their cats, the cats themselves are quietly convinced they are patiently tending to their oversized, adopted family members. Graphology (Part 4) Graphometry One of the branches of Graphology is psychometrical graphology ( psychometrical is the science of measuring behavioral tendencies) or graphometry (the science of determining constants (constants are traits that don’t change) in handwriting). Graphology is not based on psychic ability or the paranormal ; it is behavioral, neurological, and psychological . The use of graphology extends to understanding behavioral patterns. Mimic and Symbolic Schools In graphology, there are 2 schools: the mimic school and the symbolic school. The mimic school identifies a person’s character by using holistic features, including height, width, slant, and regularity. Symbolic school interprets symbols by making use of features like order, proportion, dimension, pressure, constancy, form characteristics, gestures, and occupation of space. Order refers to the organization of the script, which can be clear, confusing, concentrated, or spaced. Proportion refers to the symmetry of the script, which can be proportional, disproportionate, or mixed. Dimension indicates the height-to-width ratio of the letters within the script. For example, a high-dimensional script would include letters that are taller than they are wide. Pressure is the amount of force you use to write; it can be light, heavy, medium, or inconsistent. Constancy refers to the speed and intensity of the handwriting. Form refers to the formation of the letters and connection strokes that form the words in the script. Examples include rounded, horizontal, and vertical. Characteristic features are features that the writer repeats periodically, like crossing T-bars or dotting i-dots. Occupation of space is what the writer decides to write on the piece of paper.
How To Stop Emotional Trespassing After Abuse Stopping emotional trespassing after abuse is less about controlling the other person & more about strengthening your own boundaries, reducing visibility where needed, & reinforcing psychological safety. In many cases, the person engaging in emotional trespassing is not looking for resolution or healthy reconnection. Their motives are clearly not good. They are seeking information, emotional… View On WordPress
Where Can I Go I wonder if there are things in me that are broken beyond repair. That implies that people, I included, are problems to be fixed rather than vessels that can be redeemed, healed, resurrected. I am not a machine. There is no assembly line churning out happy brains or compassionate hearts. I can’t take a blowtorch to the jagged cracks in my broken soul. I can’t flip a switch and suddenly become a… View On WordPress
Graphology (Part 3) Graphic Structures Graphology is based on the theory that graphic structure reveals a particular personality, behavior, or trait. There are 4 primary graphic elements: 1. Baseline 2. Enclosure 3. Imposed structure 4. Stroke. Baselines The baseline is the imaginary line below where the letter rests. The baseline divides the upper and lower areas as it moves to the right; it serves to divide vertical placement and direct movement. It represents reality, the threshold of awareness, a fountain for movements, and living attitudes towards life experiences and activities. Enclosure & Imposed structure An enclosure is formed when a line borders an area. Enclosures reveal your imagination, concept enlargement, and idea expansion. There are 3 types of enclosures : the loop , the circle , and the stem . There are upper and lower loops ; they are formed by starting forward, then upward, returning forward, and downward with the crossing strokes at the baseline. For example, the letters E and L are upper loops. Lower loops refer to the lowest part of the letters; examples include G and Y. They are formed by a line enclosing an area by starting forward and downward, moving backward, and returning forward and upward with the crossing strokes at the baseline. Upper circles include letters like o and a; lower circles include letters like f and q. They are formed by lines that enclose an area, starting backward and downward, moving forward, and returning backward and upward, meeting or touching at the top. Imposed structures represent control, convention, and order. The stems in the letters t, d, p, and I are imposed written structures. A period followed by a capital letter, signature, spaces granted to margins, and starting at the upper left, moving to the right, then downwards, left to right, are also imposed structures. Stroke: Strokes refer to how much force one uses to write. It represents your capacity for vigorous activities, intellectual vitality, physiological energy, sexual passion, and emotional intensity. How thick your stroke indicates your sensory capacity. How straight a stroke will represent your approach to activities. A straight stroke will mean a firm approach, whereas a curve will mean a soft approach. The direction of the stroke just refers to the slant of the letters.
Lili Chin- Topography and Function Image descriptions and text under readmore. Description begins. [Image: A dog looks with concern towards a human who is crying out, “My dog is ___.”. A group of four humans face the crying human, asking: “Is my dog also ‘___’?” “Should you try ___?” “How are you defining ‘___’?” “How do you know?”] TOPOGRAPHY + FUNCTION A TOPOGRAPHICAL definition of behavior focuses on the physical characteristics that are observable and measurable. What does the behavior LOOK LIKE? [Image: A white and orange dog leans its body weight forward, barking. Its ears are back, its hackles are raised, its muscles are tense, its tail is stiff, and it’s giving a hard stare.] eg, “body language” or any movement with RATE, DURATION, and INTENSITY. Usually we think of behaviors as different when their topographies are different. [Image: A dog jumps up towards a standing human vs. A dog sitting in front of a standing human.] A FUNCTIONAL definition of behavior focuses on the consequences, or outcomes of the behavior. To identify the consequences, we observe and test. FOR WHAT OUTCOME does the animal do this behavior? [Image: A dog barks. Arrows point towards different outcomes. To get closer?- The dog play bows in front of another approaching dog and says “Hi!”. To get more distance?- The dog watches another dog retreat and thinks “Whew, good.” To get food?- A human feeds the dog a treat, and the dog thinks “Yes”. To get attention?- A human crouches down by the dog, shushing and petting it. ] TOPOGRAPHICALLY DIFFERENT behaviors can have the SAME FUNCTION. Two behaviors may look different and be motivated by the same outcome. For example: [Image: A hand approaches a dog that’s leaned forward, barking with stiff body language, yelling “Go away!” Then, the dog responds to the approaching hand by turning away and cowering, tail tucked, also saying “Go away!”] TOPOGRAPHICALLY SIMILAR behaviors can have DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS depending on the context. Behaviors that look the same may not mean the same thing. eg, Fighting or Playing? [Image: A dog leans forwards, yelling “Back off!!” Then, the dog playfully bounces with another dog, barking, “Come get me! LOL”] We need TOPOGRAPHY and FUNCTION to understand behavior. A TOPOGRAPHICAL interpretation of behavior is important for setting concrete goals and monitoring progress during training. Understanding the FUNCTION of the behavior we want to change is important for designing effective and ethical programs to meet the learner’s needs. [Image: The person and dog look towards the text which has reframed the first situation. My dog does [blank], which is the topography. To get or escape [blank], which is the function. Okay, let’s give my dog MORE WAYS to get that need met!] Illustration by Lili Chin (2022) Inspired by CAAWT Group Class & “The Blue Books: Goldiamond’s and Thompson’s Functional Analysis of Behavior” Description ends.
