Just general Fanfic stuff! 18. What tropes did you find yourself including? My faves are Retired Veteran Gone Domestic, Recovering Brainwashed Killer, and Extremely Dedicated Gangster. Also stories about Grief and Obligation. I know it’s hard to tell with my entire deal. I hide it so well. 19. Are there any particular headcanons or theories of yours that found their way into the fic? Crow Mages are by default bad at Magic. They view it in a very utilitarian sense. They can manage to not set themselves on fire and can enhance other of their trained abilities and skills. If they’re good at Lockpicking, they can use magic to be better at Lock Picking. If they lean on speed, they rely on fadestep, etc etc. Being good at Magic is considered a specialization but not required. Also, that Antiva doesn’t require a harrowing. Given the Crows Whole Deal came from the Annulment of the Antivan Circle, there’s no way they have the For Real Templars there to execute a Harrowing. So at worst it’s like… Boarding School for Mages. 20. Do any comments on the fic tend to favor a specific line or element? If so, what is it? The only people who comment on my fics are my friends and they communicate in emojis and animal sounds because they know that’s the language I understand and respect. I also get “why the fuck did you do that zenn” a lot. That’s how I know I did real good.

For the ask game, hurt/comfort?

B to B+, it depends on how long the story is and the characters involved. I like a bit of suffering with a happy ending and people being good friends (or otherwise) to those who need them. But it has to be in character, or at least have a compelling reason why it might be out of character. And I’m not as big a fan of the ones that are too sugary sweet.

7. when you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? it depended on my age—my cousin claims that i used to want to be president, but my most memorable dream job was a candy scientist haha and then at 14, i decided that i wanted to be a museum curator, and that’s still my dream job! head curator at the smithsonian museum of american history, with a specialty in gilded age presidential history, and i’d like to teach a class or two on that same topic on the side 28. what would be your death row/last meal? hmm. my mom’s penne vodka, with a doctor pepper (w/ extra syrup) and a marshmallow sundae (w/ extra marshmallow, no whipped cream cherries or nuts). maybe also a garlic bagel with scallion cream cheese, and an extra cup of the cream cheese to dip the bagel into because that’s my favorite way to eat them :)

Trope grading: thoughts on the classic coffee shop AU? ☕ 💜

This is a great prompt! I’d give it a C+ because I do enjoy it, but I think it’s slightly case dependent. A really good, cozy coffee shop AU hits the spot, but a coffee shop AU where there’s not a whole lot happening besides coffee doesn’t always grab my attention. (That said, off the top of my head, I’ve written three coffee shop AUs… glass houses etc etc)

Link to questions 7. Do you do any prep before you start recording? Very little. I try to make sure I have a drink, but that’s pretty much it. I think most of my podfics are cold reads, or fics I read a while ago, bookmarked to podfic, and then came back to months (or years later). On longer fics, I’ll skim through to find good places to stop and take a break before I start to record. Recently, I got irrationalpie’s Scriptify extension and I’ve started using that on dialogue heavy works before I record to help keep the character’s straight. 27. Have you come across podficcing tips and tricks that don’t work for you/your process? The spectrogram editing stuff that some people do. I tried it, but I don’t think I understand it well enough to make it work. 60. Tell us about a podfic-related thing you look forward to Voiceteam! Both Mystery Box and the main round in May. VT is exactly the kind of fast-paced creativity-fueled chaos that works for my gremlin brain.

a taste of honey: what detail(s) in the story are you particularly captivated with? Is there any behind the scenes info or backstory? so, one thing about me is that i have a “graveyard/snippets” document for each fic where i dump all the darlings i’ve killed, and then i have a master graveyard doc for random bits of dialogue or prose that don’t have a “home” fic. i was struggling with intense writer’s block while working on honey, and one of the things i would do when i was feeling stuck was peruse that master doc for inspiration. the straw hat riot footnote and cardinal virtues as heavenly paperweights footnote both came from me spelunking into the depths of the graveyard doc for anything to jump-start my brain. in the kitchen: what was the key choice or decision you had to make for this story? If you had chosen differently, what would the story have turned into? i considered making this a “proper” fix-it fic (aka something longer than a thousand words lol), but going more of a tumblr post slash ficlet hybrid route with it ended up being the right choice in terms of tricking my brain into not taking it too seriously. i might expand on it one day because i really love the premise. ♡ (also that final bit with crowley and aziraphale in their little cocoon of frozen time was much, ahem, filthier initially.) till forever falls: what scene were you most excited to write? Did it end up being the one you enjoyed writing the most? ooooo i think i have to go with the scene towards the end where aziraphale finally returns to the bookshop and sees crowley for the first time since being recalled to heaven. i was excited to reach that point in the fic because it was a pivotal moment emotionally, but also because i was eager to finally get the visuals that had been living in my head rent free onto the page; for example, crowley comforting aziraphale while he drank shitty coffee out of a chintzy novelty mug 😂 it ended up being a bit stressful to write because i was trying to balance the forward narrative momentum with moving backwards in time (non-chronological storytelling, my beloved beloathed), and iirc i went through several iterations until i landed on the final version.

Trope game: forced proximity?

This is another one where I can’t think of, off the top of my head, many times I’ve read this trope! I’m always down for a storage closet firstprince fic, whether it be hurt/comfort or a heart-to-heart or what have you. And I do enjoy the ‘snowed in’ trope. So I’ll say B - I like it, just not something I actively seek out.
