What are your thoughts on Adelaide , Isaks mentor ?
Imo, I definitely don’t think that she was a helpful mentor for Isak or Muriel at ALL, but I don’t really blame her for that. To me, she was just an average capitol citizen that was promoted to a more involved role in the games just because she was seen as the most “fit” for it. With regards to her mentoring, it makes sense that she’d only be helpful in getting them sponsors and not being able to give advice on surviving, she was never in the games. She could never see herself actually trying to give advice on how to survive because she grew up in a culture where the hunger games was all a spectacle, and not a reality like it was in the districts. Unlike the district mentors who fought with their blood, sweat, and tears to survive, she never knew of that, and couldn’t empathize with that outcome/situation. One of the most memorable (but infamous for me) was when Isak and Muriel were complaining about her threatening to hold off from giving them sponsor gifts. Looking at it in a different context, you could just imagine it as her trying to be strict with them and get them to behave/listen, but it was horribly misused within the actual context and super unwarranted and insensitive to say. These kids were being forced to fight to the life and death, with the thought that they’d never see home again, and the a Capitol lady who would never have to even step a singular foot in the arena starting to threaten to hold back supplies that could change their fate (by saving their lives), was super uncalled for. I’d be pissed just like them if someone who wasn’t from home or had to worry a day in their lives threatened on holding back materials that could’ve saved me For me, I viewed her as sort of the bad cop (while Serra was the good cop) for the tributes, because unlike Serra who was trying to get to know them, Adelaide only based her perceptions of Isak and Muriel based on the reapings and what she’s been told, and obviously Isak cussing out his district and other tributes, she never had a good perception, and never even bothered to try and learn more about him like Serra did. I do feel a little bad to judge her cause Serra did imply that something was going on with her family, so there could be some explanation there, but it doesn’t justify some of her behavior towards them.

Even though it’s tragic, I absolutely love the bangers Haymitch drops in Sunrise on the Reaping after literally any death. Like he’s so poetic with words 😭. Makes them hit so much harder too 😭😭 Some of these had me genuinely sobbing. “While Lenore Dove is my one true love, Louella is my one and only sweetheart” “Maysilee Donner, who I loathed, then grudgingly respected, then loved, not as a sister, or even a friend, a sister, I’d said” “Somewhere Beetee’s heart shatters into fragments so small it can never be repaired” “Nothing you can take from me was ever worth keeping, and Lenore Dove is the most precious thing I’ve even known”
As a writer who is newly starting to write fanfic, is there any advice fellow writers can give so it goes well? I’m currently trying to write and have so many ideas but not sure how to work past jumping here, there and everywhere. Any advice would be greatly appreciated I’m beyond intimidated

One moment in Sunrise on the Reaping that I don’t really see people talking about often, but I feel like is so important is Haymitch dropping the chocolate balls for Silka after he heard her sobbing because she was also homesick and just wanted to get out of the arena. Like in the end, the careers are kids, they’re all just kids who’ve been thrown into an impossible situation, in an unfamiliar place, where they probably expect not to escape from. And the careers have the added pressure of getting home for the “glory”. I feel like sotr really drives home the fact that these are all literally children, and humanises them in a way that Katniss doesn’t, because she never really interacts with the careers outside of fighting.
i have a lot of things to say about the future sotr soundtrack, but if they don’t have fourth of july by sufjan stevens on there…
