Sto tornando a casa, è buio. Metto i Royal Blood, alzo il volume e mi dirigo verso una strada buia, selvaggia, piena di curve con l'intento di percorrerla in modo un po’ spregiudicato. Mi si piazza davanti un tizio tranquillo, troppo, che ha deciso di fare la stessa strada a 40 km/h. Mi adeguo? Lo sorpasso? Accosto e attendo 15 minuti che si levi di torno per poi ripartire? L'ultima.

Driving the Lincoln Highway in the 90s. The start point is Times Square, and a few blocks after that we meet the first clue that we’re on the correct road. The Lincoln Highway is the first transcontinental road for automobiles in the Usa, dedicated in 1913. At a time when roads where more often built to connect grain storage silos or slaughterhouses to the nearest train station, the Lincoln Highway wound its way for over 3,000 miles (more than 5.000 km) between New York and San Francisco, going through dozens of Main Streets in towns and villages in 13 States. Adventurous first drivers conducted sturdy Ford Model Ts between Times Square and Lincoln Park, while the newly born tradition required a drink at the start and to spray the car with Pacific Ocean water upon arrival. Thanks to the LH Association www.lincolnhighwayassoc.org that keeps memories alive, the Lincoln Highway has not been forgotten. Even nowadays travelers can relive the adventure. Canon T90. Ektachrome 100 and 400. We did it in 7 days / 6 nights, driving a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am, that didn’t leave us much time to pick the right light for photography. Journey across absurdly coincidental moments captured in the right place at the right time, as well as deliberately bizarre 360° images. Collected screen captures are paired with the coordinates of each location and the year the images were taken.
Do you notice? the snakes that follow the car in front of you when it rains? How they slither behind on the asphalt coming in and out of the road. In so close they could strike at the tires.

Celá práce pojednává o mojí cestě do krásného areálu Tiských stěn. Dlouhá panoramatická ilustrace je inspirována grafikami, které jsem právě na této cestě potkal.
