These festive Gingerbread Garland Cookies are a delicious holiday treat and decoration. Their warm spices and sweet aroma will bring joy to your home. Ingredients: 3 cups all-purpose flour. 1 teaspoon baking soda. ¼ teaspoon salt. 2 teaspoons ground ginger. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. ¼ teaspoon ground cloves. ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg. ½ cup unsalted butter, softened. ½ cup brown sugar, packed. 1/3 cup molasses. 1 egg. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Icing sugar for decoration. Food coloring optional. Instructions: Mix the flour, baking soda, salt, and ground spices ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg in a bowl with a whisk. Put away. Put the softened butter and brown sugar in a different large bowl and beat them together until they are smooth and creamy. To the butter and sugar mix, add the molasses, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix everything together well. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ones and mix them together until a dough forms. Cut the dough in half and then wrap each half in plastic wrap. Put it in the fridge for at least an hour. Set the oven to 350F 175C and heat it up. Put parchment paper on baking sheets. To make a circle about ¼ inch thick, roll out a piece of the dough on a lightly floured surface. To cut out the cookies, you can use cookie cutters in the shape of gingerbread men or any other shape you want. Carefully place the cookies on the baking sheets that have been prepared, leaving some space between each one. To make cookies in the shape of a garland, poke a hole in the top of each one with a straw. After the oven is hot, bake the cookies for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden. Take the cookies out of the oven and let them cool for a few minutes on the baking sheets. Then, move them to wire racks to cool all the way down. You can put icing sugar on the cookies once they are completely cool. You can also make the colors stand out more by adding food coloring to the icing. If you want to make a garland, hook the cookies together with string and tie knots in the ends. Before putting the gingerbread garland cookies on display or packing them up, let the frosting set and harden. Prep Time: 30 minutes Cook Time: 10 minutes eastfootspa
Christmas Morning Light: How the Right Window Treatments Set the Mood Christmas morning has a feeling all its own. The house is quiet, the air is cool, and soft daylight begins to filter through the windows—just enough to signal that the day has arrived. That first light matters more than we realize. It shapes how the room feels, how colors appear, and how moments unfold as families gather, unwrap gifts, and slow down together. Let the Light In—Gently Bright winter sun can be beautiful, but on Christmas morning, harsh glare can feel out of place. Window treatments that diffuse light—rather than block it—create a calm, welcoming atmosphere. Cellular shades and soft fabric roller shades allow daylight to glow through the room without overwhelming it. The result is a warm, balanced light that feels intentional and peaceful. Warmth You Can Feel December mornings often bring a chill, even in North County homes. Insulated window treatments help retain warmth, keeping rooms comfortable without adjusting the thermostat. Cellular shades are especially effective during winter, as their structured design traps air and helps reduce heat loss—making your space feel cozy long after the sun rises. Privacy Without Closing Off the Day Holiday mornings are meant to feel personal and unrushed. Adjustable window treatments make it easy to enjoy natural light while maintaining privacy from the outside. Top-down, bottom-up styles are ideal for this moment—bringing daylight in from above while keeping the lower portion of the window covered. A Space That Transitions with the Day As Christmas unfolds—from morning coffee to afternoon gatherings to evening candlelight—your window treatments should adapt with you. Layered shades and automated options allow for effortless transitions, maintaining comfort and ambiance throughout the day without distraction. A Thoughtful Way to Begin the Season Ahead Christmas is also a pause—a moment to notice what works in your home and what could be better. The way light moves through your space is one of those details that often goes unnoticed until it feels just right. As the year comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to imagine how small upgrades—like the right window treatments—can make everyday moments feel more intentional in the year ahead. Wishing you a warm, peaceful Christmas from North County Blinds.
