making a doll of arachne (six arms + two legs (eight limbs) and eight eyes on a human figure yknow the usual) and wondering what the most accurate and slayliscious outfit to make her would be🙏
Okay it is interesting let me say dear Anon how you said you made her with six arms and two legs. I usually see the other way round aka six legs and two arms hehe see for example “James and the Giant Peach” Spider hahaha which is why it seems interesting to me what you have in mind there for that design (although I go for the classical spider post-metamorphosis) Anyways now what fashion Arachne would have? Well I am not sure haha I mean my first instinct is given that the most famous version comes from Ovid’s Metamorphosis is to give her roman attire; nicely-woven togas with some nice details and even these elaborate hairstyles that also are said to be assisted not only by wigs but also by sewing the hair together; in one way hinting both the most famous origins of the myth coming from roman sources as well as the aspect of hers being a weaver in everything, including her hair. However if you wish to make her in ancient Greek attire I am not sure what you mean “accurate”. It depends on what you wish to convey and what era you want her to be placed in. So I have some suggestions; Generally speaking I would look for any attire that could fit Athena . Hear me out. Given that her arrogance and hubris to Athena was what brought her doom I think Arachne would be trying to woven patterns for her clothes that could fit Athena. Almost like trying to “cosplay” and “outdress” her. That also means that her own show off will not be on her body but on her clothes. So I know it is controversial but I think you should forget revealing clothing. She wouldn’t show her flesh. She would show off her clothes. So I would say modest lines, dresses that cover the body as much as possible that are meant to show off her patterns, woven skills etc would be preferred by her. Matching colors do not need to be in your mind. Go wild with color combinations, patterns that can get your eyes dizzy; drawing attention not to her face but to her clothes. Her hubris was her skill, not her looks. Just like Athena, she would want you to notice her beautiful dress, her skill to create the most bold combinations and make them work. You wanna be extra bold? Make her weave a gorgoneion on a shawl or a dress, mimicking the Aegis that Athena wears. Allow her appearance to scream to Athena “Come and get me, I dare you!” Bronze Age fashion: The woven purple shawl style (the one on the right) (image from the net, creations of Diana Wardle) This purple woven shawl style looks like something Arachne could wear (or Athena for that matter) and it offers space to show her intricate pattern designs Archaic Fashion: Kore with the Pomegranate style Once again I think she would show off her skills by wearing many beautifully woven shawls she made herself. Potentially trying to rival Athena’s style. The draped material allows you to see more surface for her woven work; sleeves, pockets the small pom pom endings etc. Pair up with woven-like braids or locks of hair, pleated skirts intricate patterns etc Classical Fashion: Ionian Style loose fit. huge dresses with dramatic sleeves, tied to the back, extra pairs of himmation or overcoats and peplos. Let her airy spacious dress embrace her body, patterns get as over the top as you like, accessories or even woven headbands to give her more groove if you want Hellenistic Fashion: Tanagra Figurine Veiled Lady Style An extravagant veiled style that is definitely underrated by the general fashion design; almost resemble a Mother Mary style, sometimes paired with conical petassos hat or a fan. Definitely a strong suggestion for drawing or styling Now I understand that you said you wanna make a doll so I understand that some of these might go overboard and of course is just suggestions but you do get where I am coming from and what I have in mind for Arachne given her story as given to us by Ovid. Generally I would encourage you to see the extravagant style of Athena and make it more dramatic; give Arachne the hubris that made Athena punish her for her insolence
I don’t think people give Laertes enough gangsta energy credit! I mean think about it, the dude was a king of a small kingdom and potentially a grandson of an actual bear! XD He was also a good farmer and potential craftsman on his own right In myths he is a skillful hunter and he took part at the Calydonian boar hunt according to later sources or even an Argonaut in one or two of them too. But he also could have had any princess he wanted in theory but nope! Dude married the arguable princess of thieves, granddaughter of Hermes in some sources that was also most likely not a virgin at her wedding bed (having had a little adventure with a rascal called Sisyphus) and not only that, he kept his marriage, he remained loyal to her even if he had a crush on a slave he had every right to sleep with and he allowed his baby son have frequent contact with his grandfather the arguable king of thieves himself and he remained alive arguably longer than many other kings judging the age of Odysseus age. No I do not think we give Laertes enough credit
Coming soon: A few months ago I was looking at @sarafangirlart @bcowlick and @jejesoso making fun of the latest mythology retelling and at one point one of them said, “one of these days I would like to see one of these retelling authors be brave enough to tackle Eos.” And I thought “Well… I can write, I know what Theoi is, and I have a Kindle account. Sooo…” For fans of Greek Mythology and Nabokov’s Lolita comes the story of Eos drafting an author into writing a mythology retelling detailing her coming of age and obsessions with men. Thoughout she claims to be a victim of misogyny, that she is one whom women can rally around as a figure of feminism- despite growing evidence to the contrary.
Icarus Finds The Sun And what if Icarus made it to the sun, And found it a hollow reflection of the earth, The light and warmth it harbored only that excess tossed asunder by the mountains, And the people, and the homes, and the families, And the love and the kindness and the hope, And all the things he thought were found in the sky. But Icarus wouldn’t fall back down from the sky, Because he grew blinded by that mirror, That promised it was better than the original. And so he flew higher, farther from the light, Even as he thought he neared it. And soon he grew to be a reflection himself, Light tossed into his face finding itself warped, Thrown to empty space, anywhere but below. And he told the people below to fly, Fly to the sun and the reflection and the power, Even as he grew to resent them For being merely the source and not the mighty mirror.
The Hardest Choice (will never be you) AO3 Link Summary: When Penelope had given Odysseus permission to find…company during the war (provided they were men and ones she’d approve of), he hadn’t at first thought that he’d take her up on that offer. And then he got to know Diomedes of Argos. He had gotten far closer to the man than he had expected. And when given the possibility of the two of them getting even closer, he of course wanted to take the opportunity in stride. He had no idea that Diomedes wouldn’t want to do the same. . Ooookie doke finally getting @asha-dasha ’s birthday present posted! She has taught me the art of torturing Diomedes so it was only fair to be a lil mean to him as a gift (tho I am nicer to him than I could be in this lol)
Summoner Saga - Hippalectryon (Hellenistic Mythology) The hippalectryon is a cross between a horse and rooster, a proto-pegasus perhaps. None of the divine or religious significance of this creature has survived to the modern day. In fact, Aristophanes considered the hippalectryon so ridiculous he used it as an insult in his comedies. The coloration is inspired by the red junglefowl. This is in reference to its golden feathers and fire-colored body. I imagine it would be a relic; kept only in captivity as it was out-competed by the pegasus.
Ver dogshit random ask,but wich yaelokre song do you associate with each of the gods and godesses, because ooh boy the kamahalan obsession is hitting again
Oh I don’t associate them with gods and goddesses per se but I have a few songs that I have imagined to Trojan war tales!!! Such as Cole’s response detailing Odysseus and Penelope’s relationship through Penelope’s point of view or kamahalan telling the story of Agamemnons kids and the Curse of the House of Atreus and all that stuff. I also liked to imagine the first half of kid and leveret to the killing of the suitors by the hands of Odysseus and Telemachus, which are just to name a few! I don’t think about the gods nearly as much as I think about the Trojan war hero dudes which is a shame, honestly, I should consider them a tad bit more since theyre incredibly detrimental to literally everything within the universe
Agamemnon ♡ Clytemnestra Another one from this clip of, “Bob ♡ Abishola.” Every time I think of them, it’s either angst or drama. Like there’s always a kick to their chemistry. However, there might be a few exceptions. This is probably what happened when they were about to move to Mycenae after their siblings got married. In my head, this is the most wholesome moment I think of with those divas. ———- [As Agamemnon and Clytemnestra are about to go to sleep after they packed everything] Agamemnon: The best part of every trip is getting home to your own bed. Clytemnestra: My own bed. Agamemnon: Nice and firm, help out my back. Clytemnestra: So soft I can sink into it. Agamemnon: My light, linen sheets. Clytemnestra: My heavy, weighted blanket. Agamemnon: Like sleeping on Mount Olympus’ clouds. Clytemnestra: Like sleeping in a cozy grave. Agamemnon: … Clytemnestra: … Agamemnon: Clytemnestra, my wife, would you do me the honor of sleeping in your own bed tonight so that I can sleep in mine and spread out like I’m ready to protect Lady Aphrodite? Clytemnestra: Oh, I will. [The next morning] Clytemnestra: Kaliméra , sister and brother-in-law. Menelaus: Did you spend the night here? Clytemnestra: Yes. Helen: Without Agamemnon? Clytemnestra: Yes. Menelaus: What did you do? Helen: Was there a fight? Menelaus: Did you hit him? Clytemnestra: Agamemnon and I just wanted to spend the night in our own beds. Helen: O theoí mou ! What will our parents say? Clytemnestra: Our parents will not know. Menelaus: They will when she tells them. Helen: Am I supposed to talk about the weather? My sister’s marriage is falling apart. Menelaus: You understand that we care about you very much. Clytemnestra: I do. Menelaus: So know this comes from a place of love. [ Menelaus takes away Clytemnestra’s breakfast] Menelaus: Leave this palace and never come back. Helen: Do not make us spend money on changing the locks. Clytemnestra: It is just one night. Menelaus (to Helen): Call the locksmith. ———- Bonus Agamemnon: Good morning. How’s everyone doing? Menelaus: Brother, what are you doing here? Shouldn’t you have left already? Helen: Did you actually sleep in your own beds? Clytemnestra: Husband, you’re here. Have the servants moved the bed frame to the carriage? Menelaus and Helen: *Le gasp* ———- I almost had Agamemnon reference Ixion to the part where he mentions being Aphrodite’s protector (starfish). Originally, Tyndareus and Leda were supposed to be there. But, I felt Menelaus and Helen are a better choice. Also yay! We have the Atreides and the Tyndareides together!
Zeus Zeus in his Hades version, before Hades 2 gave him a chest piece and a post-stroke expression. I really dig how this game managed to walk the thin line between “Gods are petty assholes and don’t care for humankind” and “They’re also hot and charming AF.” That’s a daddy you can lust for without second toughts.
