Is anyone else upset about the Shatter Me movie announcement? I’m very biased for numerous different reasons, but I’d still like to share my thoughts. Shatter Me was the book that got me into reading and helped me escape reality when I was at my lowest. I hated books back then, but the writing style of Shatter Me made me fall so deeply in love with them. I really doubt that a movie will be able to properly execute the story that I have in my head, even if Tahereh Mafi is heavily involved. I decided what the world and the characters look like. I decided what they sound like. I decided so many things because that’s the type of creative freedom that a book gives you. A movie will just ruin everything for me. It will force me to view the whole story a certain way while erasing the idea of it that I have in my mind. Even if I choose not to watch it, there will still be a good chance of me accidentally seeing bits of it on the internet. Especially as someone who interacts with the fandom quite a lot. I feel like I just watched a childhood pet die or something.
