Yo-Yo: From Playground Craze to Outer Space and Language When I was a kid, the Yo-Yo came roaring back for what felt like one last great victory lap. Suddenly, they were everywhere. Schoolyards became impromptu trick competitions. Kids walked the dog across the pavement, rocked the cradle, and spent entire recesses trying to master tricks that seemed impossible just a week earlier. What many people don’t realize is that “Yo-Yo” wasn’t always a generic… Yo-Yo: From Playground Craze to Outer Space and Language
A Trip Down Memory Lane: The Toys That Defined the 1980s There’s a very specific kind of joy that only 1980s toys can unlock. It’s loud plastic joy. It’s battery-powered joy. It’s “my parents absolutely stepped on this in the dark” joy. The 80s didn’t just give us toys — it gave us tiny emotional support objects disguised as neon-colored chaos. Some of these toys were comforting. Some were slightly cursed. All of them were unforgettable. Let’s take a… A Trip Down Memory Lane: The Toys That Defined the 1980s
We interrupt this mostly AG account to show you the She-Ra Barbie I ordered months and months ago. I almost forgot I pre-ordered her. She’s pretty cool though I still wish I had my original 1980s She-Ra dolls. She-Ra is He-Man (Masters of the Universe) twin (?) sister. It was a silly show that was really only around to sell toys. When Reagan and his cronies took away a lot of child TV regulations we 1980s kids got bombarded with a lot of extremely commercialized kid shows with little to no educational value with long commercials that sold us sugary snacks. If you went to go into a deep dive on kids TV regulation go here: Regulations on children’s television programming in the United States - Wikipedia A graphic novel that also talks about this subject: The He-Man Effect Speaking of junk of course it unfortunately looks like US history is going to repeat itself with our current corrupt trash administration with the Orange Führer and his trafficked escort wife. Now the money that should be going to PBS and other institutions is instead going to billionaires. This doll was just suppose to be just a nostalgic nod to my childhood but now that I think of it I’m not sure if it represents such a good thing. Now I suggest to not get the doll and get PBS Passport if you haven’t already! PBS: Public Broadcasting Service
Kind of weird how some 80s girl toys had villains that realistically would be allies Like Nastina the Spider from Rose Petal Place Why is she a villain? Because she’s creepy? A spider? Sorta frumpy lookin? She’s performing an important ecological role!!!! She would be why Rose Petal and her friends aren’t getting eaten alive by bugs! Rose Petal Place :: Friends & Foes | Ghost of the Doll “Every garden has its bad seed, and in this one it’s the spider, Nastina. She’s a funny old creature who wished she could be as beautiful as the other flower dolls. She is clad in purple. Her body is sculpted with bloomers and a corset, and her skirt is cloth. She can jump into any situation when dangled by a cord attached to her torso. All eight of her limbs are articulated as well has her head and torso, and she can even bob up and down by pressing the lever on her body.” Oh because she isn’t doll-level beautiful and old? Bleh
