Today’s writing is less writing and more planning because big families spawn complex and convoluted family trees and when the youngest brother of the first generation time travels 50ish years into the future you kinda have to get all your ducks in a row so he can accidentally shoot his great-nephew, who also happens to be named after him. That’s not even the most ridiculous thing that happens in this fic.
Your First Draft Isn’t Supposed to Be Perfect Too many writers quit because their first draft doesn’t match the story in their head. That’s normal. The first draft’s job is to exist. The editing process is where the magic happens.
📚 I stare at a blank page ✍️ Anyone else feel like this when thinking about writing their next story? I wrote this poem today 📝 A thousand ideas run through my mind. I imagine who you will be. Will you be kind? Will you be cruel? I stare at a blank page. I wonder what will happen to you. Will you fall in love? Will you have your heart broken? I stare at a blank page. What will the reader think of you Will they love you? Will they hate you? I stare at a blank page. I picture what life looks like for you. Will you overcome your fears? Will you stay true to yourself? I stare at a blank page. I wonder how the story will end. Will I be happy with my creation? Will I be satisfied with my effort? I stare at a blank page. It’s time to begin .
End? Tw:death, suicide as you’re lying in bed wondering what have you done You remind myself that everyone dies one day Rather sooner or later By their own hands or someone’s Everyone has someone to mourn them Or so you thought As you look over the list of reasons you should stay You realize it no longer affects you Some may say you’re selfish And some may say you were blind But others may have regrets or something they’d wish they had done to keep you here But this is no fault but youre own Youve lived many lives But it always comes down to death in the end
Hype doesn’t improve flavor. It just stretches your expectations until reality can’t possibly meet them. If everyone is telling you where to eat, no one is discovering anything. It’s just repetition. TikTok videos don’t taste better, finding hidden gems on your own, that’s the magic.
I honestly believe that in order to make a good retelling you need to love the source material. No no, even better. You need to be an insane fan of the source material and know things about it that the creator of the material didn’t know. Too many retellings are made with the thought “this shit sucked ass so I need to create a better thing (proceed not understanding of the plot points and nuances the source material had)”
I spend a lot of my days writing since I can remember, but I have never found my way with words. I never liked the way I write or the way I chose my words or how I structure my sentences. I love writing, but writing doesn’t love me.
The Quiet Chant
The pixels dance, the comments fly, Another day beneath the sky. But listen close, a deeper plea: *You are more than what you see.* The notifications buzz and chime, Consuming every precious time. But listen close, a steady plea: *You are more than what you see.* When shadows creep, and doubts ignite, And weary spirits dim their light. Then listen close, a hopeful plea: *You are more than what you see.* Let silence bloom, a sacred art, And tend the garden of your heart. Just listen close, this urgent plea: *You are more than what you see.* For every soul that seeks a way, To navigate the breaking day, Just listen close, and finally: *You are more than what you see.*
Is Wattpad still a fun app? Don’t get me wrong. I love ao3, and it’s an amazing archive for both writers and readers. But after some writing, I really wonder how readers would react to some paragraphs and what the comments would be. That, and since I’ve heard that many writers in ao3 are complaining about the lack of interaction, wouldn’t that kind of solve the problem? People are very opinionated nowadays, I feel like they’ve got a lot to say with every sentence, therefore, there would be a lot of comments under a paragraph or so. Also, I’m curious if it’s difficult to add that kind of interaction in ao3? It would be, they would’ve done it by now if they could, surely. Lastly, I just miss making covers. But then again, I’m guessing since there’s so much ads in wattpad, it’s kind of frustrating to read in wattpad. Kind of curious what other people think about this from both writers and readers.
YOUR READERS CAN’T READ YOUR MIND. One of the most common issues I find as a beta reader: The author understands everything. The reader doesn’t. If readers are confused, it doesn’t mean the story is bad. It usually means something important stayed in your head instead of making it onto the page.
Something I’m seriously considering working on is a dual series told kinda like the Twilight-Midnight Sun narrative style… but obviously not the subject matter and with two different age ranges in mind. One series would be aimed specifically at advanced middleschool readers, because I don’t think we have enough books with that specific group in mind. I know that was the case when I was that age… and I ended up reading a lot of stuff that I had the skill to read but not the ability to contexualize because my brain was just not developed enough to comprehend. The other would be for adult readers and would be able to play with the difference in protagonist age perspectives, as well as be a fun thing for either a caretaker/kid duo to read and talk about together, or to read one series, then kinda graduate to the other series once they’re a but older. Maybe even both. It would also be really fun world building and narrative because there’s a lot of things kids won’t see/vice versa, as well as build a story where the kids and adults are working towards a similar goal instead of the trope of “kid must save the day because adults are useless,” or “kid is here as convient narrative prop” And yeah, obviously it would probably not be something publishing would pick up, but it still sounds like something fun to write.
I want to like the color pink To go to Greece To collect old cameras I want to paint my walls whatever color I’m feeling that week I want to travel to a big city and go to the Eiffel tower and sip tea with the British. I want to work in Korea and buy 5 project cars and race in Japan. But all I do is work. Budget. I feel so grey. When did life become survival Instead of living And it’s never enough I’m never going to make enough money to do everything I want to The government is taking my money, my freedom, my life, my will to live and blaming it on technology. When can we start being happy before being rich? I crave existing and so do you. Pictures are from Pinterest.
